Computer Society of India NIST Chapter organizes AI lecture

After data, AI/ML (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning) is the most used phrase in the technology discussions of our times. Computer Society of India (CSI) NIST Chapter organized guest lectures on AI/ML by Dr Srinivas Padmanabhuni (Eminent Engineer, AI Thought Leader, Entrepreneur. Working to use AI to solve farm to fork inefficiencies and the skill gap) and Mr Debasish Mahapatro (Promoter - Verve Consulting, Cerebra, Eastbrook) on 6th Sept 2019.

Dr Padmanabhuni delivered a talk on Prospects of AI in India and the Ways Forward. He identified the use of cases and some fascinating implications of AI. He said, “We're already using AI, though often unknowingly, through Google Now, Amazon Suggest, Google Maps, Alexa, Siri and many more. And the thrust is to replace multilevel interaction such as IVRs with simple face detection using AI.” He also asserted that soon most apps will be AI driven and the world will be an AI First World that will require enough AI skilled workforce. He also described the 3 types of AI: ANI (Artificial Narrow Intelligence, mostly in use these days), AGI (Artificial General Intelligence that we've not reached yet), and ASI (Artificial Super Intelligence, that will do everything better than humans do). While robots automated assembly lines, AI with Supervised, Unsupervised, Reinforcement ML is going to bring the next wave of automation.

Mr Mahapatro proposed collaboration with NIST for AI studies, AI 360, where the institute's students will engage with AI celebs from around the world. They will learn skills, know the requirements of AI job market, and develop desirable skills set to enhance their employability. In short, the course will turn the students into AI Ninjas.
