The Department of Mathematics at NIST University has played a vital role in the institution since its inception, evolving into a comprehensive department with 15 highly qualified faculty members, all holding Doctorate or Post-Doctorate degrees from esteemed institutions in India and abroad. Originally focused on developing engineering skills, the department expanded in 2017 to offer a M.Sc. in Mathematics, led by a team of young and dynamic faculty. Renowned for its excellence in both teaching and research, the department's faculty actively mentors Ph.D. and M.Sc. students, publish in reputable journals, collaborate with various institutions, and successfully secure research grants from organizations such as SERB (DST) and NBHM (DAE).
Rupashree Pattnaik, a 2nd-year M.Sc. (Mathematics) student, has secured a position in the entrance test to receive the P.G. Meritorious Scholarship from the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of Odisha. This prestigious scholarship, awarded to only 32 students, grants ₹2000 per month for two years (2022-23 and 2023-24) in recognition of academic excellence and merit.
