NIST Fraternity expresses its sincere gratitude to the Government of Odisha and the Department
of Skill Development & Technical Education (SDTE) for the esteemed recognition as The NIST
University. This acknowledgment inspires us to further dedicate ourselves to academic excellence
and innovation.
In accepting this prestigious recognition, we reaffirm our commitment to fostering a vibrant
learning environment that nurtures talent, cultivates leadership, and fosters a spirit of
inquiry and innovation. With the unwavering support of the government and our stakeholders, we
look forward to charting new horizons and making meaningful contributions to the educational
landscape of Odisha and beyond.
Together, let us embark on this exciting journey of growth, discovery, and transformation.
NIST has been conferred with full academic autonomy for 10 years (effective from March 2019) by UGC in 2018. This is a very significant development in our journey as a young institution (23-year old by 2019) and a step toward flourishing into a university. Now on the institute has the power to make its own rules, regulations and by-laws in consonance with the UGC guidelines. It will help us widen the scope of academic excellence and offer our students yet better industry experience.
Awards, rewards and accreditations have become synonymous with the institution in the recent past. The latest and the most prestigious in the list of achievements is the Grade 'A' accreditation bestowed upon NIST by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) of India (UGC) with 3.22 rating, i.e., the highest among all engineering colleges of Odisha.
Testimony to our technical and professional standards, we have been NBA accreditated for Computer Science and Engineering and Electronics & Communication Engineering courses. Students studying in NIST receive education that is a perfect balance between high academic quality and professional relevance well integrated into the programs, activities and processes. The students graduating during the validity period of accreditation will have an NBA accredited degree.
The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has published the India Rankings 2016 at a glittering ceremony held at Vigyan Bhavan on 4th April, 2016. This is the first such effort of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), Government of India. NIST by virtue of its 69th position is ranked as the first Private Engineering College of Odisha. The criteria for ranking included teaching/learning resources, research, graduation outcomes, outreach/inclusivity and perception. The data for the first four parameters, which accounts for 90% of the weightage, was submitted by the institutions and verified by NIRF.
For the perception criterion, various stakeholders including parents, teachers, and alumni were
engaged to give their feedback. More than 3,500 top higher educational institutions are under
consideration for the ranking.
The Founder of NIST, Dr. Sukant K. Mohapatra thanked the faculty, students and all stakeholders
for this huge recognition on the national front. He ascribed this success to the last 20 years
of single minded effort of the management to build a world class institute in the most
economically and educationally deprived district of Ganjam, Odisha.
NIST has been ranked 60th among the top engineering colleges of India by Outlook India 2019 which predictably has all the IITs and BITS, Pilani at the top. This is a rare honor for NIST which was established in 1996 and within a span of 23 years has reached the top spot as published by the reputed national magazine, Outlook. There are 3500 engineering colleges in India with an intake capacity of 17 lakh students. The institutes were ranked by objective analysis taking into consideration the selection process, academic excellence, personality development and individual interface, infrastructure and placement.
NIST has been ranked 25th among all Engineering Colleges in INDIA by DATAQUEST 2018.
BPUT students have also ranked NIST as the No.1 Engineering College of Odisha.
