Distinguished Alumnus Award of IIT Kanpur to Director, NIST
The Distinguished Alumnus Award (DAA 2017) of IIT Kanpur has been conferred upon Prof. Sangram Mudali, Director, National Institute of Science and Technology, Berhampur, Odisha. DAA is the highest award of IITK given to its alumni in recognition of their achievements of exceptional merit. Prof. Ashutosh Sharma, Secretary, Dept. of Science and Technology, Govt. of India presented the award to Prof. Mudali and five more recipients in a glittering ceremony at Kanpur campus.
Prof. Mudali and his wife Prof. Geetika Mudali’s decision of starting NIST in Berhampur, one of the backward districts of Odisha, leaving behind their lives of comfort, and in a span of two decades placing it among the top engineering colleges of the country, has been well appreciated by the Board of Governors of IIT Kanpur, its entire community of faculty, staff & students, and its alumni spreading over the globe. In addition, the establishment of Diganta, a school for social cause for the upliftment of hundreds of underprivileged tribal students of Odisha is a giant step towards bringing the humanity on a less unequal platform. At present, Diganta is preparing more than 500 students to be future ready providing them with free food, free accommodation, and free holistic education.
Prof. Sangram Mudali, through his acceptance speech, expressed his gratitude to his father Late Shri Surendra Mudali, his wife, Prof. Geetika Mudali and his entire team of faculty members at NIST and Diganta for making his dream come true. Prof. Mudali stands a true role model for many in the state and the country as well.
