NIST has always been grabbing opportunities where academia and industry come together in a win-win situation. It has been making consistent efforts to collaborate with renowned academic institutions and industries to provide world class exposure to the students. It emphasizes on the collaborative research funded by the Government and Industry funding agencies. The institute has built up strong industrial interaction with various industries for collaboration in research work. These eminent collaborations help the students acquire the knowledge, skills and aptitude required in our times for participation on a global level in terms of higher studies, placements, and entrepreneurship. These sponsored research programs have helped the institute create the infrastructure and strengthen the facilities in some of the emerging areas of technology. The Institute has also received numerous research grants, projects, special funding, travel funding, SDPs, FIST grant and scholarships from the DST, CSIR, AICTE and different companies.
NIST Institute Park is spread over 60 acres of which 4.3 lakh sq.ft. make academic space that houses many Centers of Excellence and international standard research laboratories wherein our researchers and faculty work, and where industries invest into our ideas. NIST has signed MoU with 15 industries for Rs 6.3 Crore in last five years and over 15 Research Scholars have worked in projects leading to their Ph.D work and Rs. 1.16 Crore on consultancy. The institute is collaborating with industries such as Sankalp Semiconductors, Sandhur and SunMoksha in the areas of Nano-technology and Renewal Energy. It has also collaborations with L&T Technology Services (LTTS) in the areas of IoT Solutions, AI, Data Science, Security, VLSI, 5G and Compute Vision.
The faculty of the institute maintain strong industrial links by undertaking consultancy assignments. This includes jobs of varied nature like troubleshooting, product and process development and design checks. The institute is doing collaborative research work with top institutes of India and abroad like IITs, NIT, NEERI Nagpur, CMET Pune, University of Hyderabad, University of California, Michigan State University, Stanford University, and NJIT, USA. NIST has established Centers of Excellence in partnership with industries such as CADENCE, IBM, SAP Asia Pacific, L&T Technology Services, National Instruments, Texas Instruments, ARM, and WIPRO.
IG Drones is a technology service provider company that provides drone services for mapping, surveying, inspection, agriculture, disaster management, power transmission and hydrology. IG Drones partnered with NIST for software product development and indigenized drone production starting from design to prototyping and manufacturing. Faculty members and research scholars from multiple departments actively contribute to development of control algorithms and analytics platforms.
Pipli is a startup working in the domain of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to enhance customer engagement and organizational efficiency. The company develops predictive models from historical datasets and has setup a development center at NIST where proprietary technology integration and process development activities are carried out. Students and faculty supervisors work together on real-world industrial projects.
Popularizing STEM education among school children, Protionix manufactures robotics hardware kits, organizes STEM education events, and conducts robotics workshops across multiple states in India. Founded by NIST Mechanical Engineering graduates, the company currently operates a development center at NIST utilizing fabrication facilities to develop educational toys and innovation-driven products.
Bariflolabs is an Industry 4.0 compliant startup providing SAAS and FAAS to the aquaculture industry. Its patented aquaculture pond management and water purification systems based on bubble plume aeration technology distinguish it technologically. The startup began at NIST and now operates a development center where UG and PG students work on industrial research and product development projects.
Industry-supported Centers of Excellence empowering students with advanced technologies and innovation-driven learning.
Every year the institute engages with major IT giants through contests such as Infy TQ, HackWithInfy, Wipro Talent Next, and Wipro National Talent Hunt to provide students with industrial exposure, learning opportunities and placements. Through these programs students gain conceptual and practical understanding of emerging technologies while developing rapid problem-solving skills and innovative thinking abilities.
NIST has been collaborating with premier universities and institutes such as IIT Kanpur, National Taiwan University, Academica Sinica, Taiwan, and Brunel University, UK, for summer programs, higher studies and research. Through these collaborations NIST students and faculty get global exposure and the institute gets projects and recognition. Collaborating with institutions like IIT-Delhi, IIT-Kanpur, NEERI-Nagpur, CMET-Pune, University of Hyderabad, University of California, Michigan State University, Stanford University, and NJIT, USA, NIST has bagged the Intel DST-IUSF Award for the project, “Integrated low cost water sensor for real time river-water monitoring and decision-making” jointly funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India and Intel (Indo-US Science and Technology Forum).
In 2019, the institute has signed two MoUs with NJIT, USA, for summer research and Ph.D programs at
NJIT, and one MoU with IIT-Kanpur for promoting entrepreneurship and startups by sharing resources
such as research facilities and mentors. The MoU for doctorate programs at NJIT reduces the expense
of international students and brings them a lot of convenience where they can stay in their home
country during the first year of their PhD studies. The MoU to hold Summer Research Programs at NJIT
brings NIST students the best of right cultural environment, academic, and research exposure. It
provides students with the opportunity for a global experience to enhance skills basis reciprocity
and frequent interactions with NJIT mentors and students.
NIST has also signed an MoU with IIT-Kanpur to share their network resources towards building a
stronger and vibrant incubation ecosystem. Both the premier institutes will explore possibilities on
a case to case basis for co-incubation of startups by sharing mentors and extending specialized labs
and product development infrastructure. NIST, in association with IIT, Kharagpur, is also part of
the MHRD Virtual Laboratory project. The institute has signed MoUs for research collaboration in the
field of nano sciences, communications, semiconductor technology with the National Taiwan University
and University of Electro Communications, Japan. Also, every year a record number of NIST students
are selected for master's programs and research programs in the international university, National
Chiao Tung University (NCTU), Taiwan.
