NIST organized an Orientation Program on 16th August 2019 to provide freshers an overview of the complete realm of NIST -- its activities, functioning, expectations, records, and other information so that the students acclimatize themselves to the new ambience and people.

Over 1000 students and parents gathered in the campus for the event. HOD of English Deptt. introduced the key office holders and leaders of the institute. He addressed the students, "...this orientation program marks the end of the tension and uncertainty that was looming over you for the last couple of months. Before you, over 13000 students had been here -- they came, they transformed themselves and graduated from the campus to become successful engineers, entrepreneurs, scientists and academicians -- you should also expect only the best." Following Prof. Lenka's address, senior students too shared their experiences with the new comers. The Registrar, Shri Kshirod Chandra Mohapatra, assured the parents that their children are now the institute's children too. He also added that the institute will look after their overall safety, academic growth and personal development.

NIST Chairman, Dr. Sukant Kumar Mohapatra, explained the gathering how NIST, owing to its international collaborations, offers global standard education, opportunity and exposure to the students, ultimately making them capable global citizens to take on the global challenges. He asserted, "... NIST is not just an academic institute. It's a platform where you (students) come first, where you can grow, lead and transform as per your leaning and passion. Now you're in the most productive phase of your life, the institute will do whatever possible to make your productive lives more profound and enriching." Dr Mahapatra also told the students about the institute's 4-point principle: Student First, Academic Education plus Training of the Mind, Research Focused Education, One Family Culture, and Community-Centric Approach. At the end, he shared the institute's vision for 2020-2025.

The Placement Director presented the institute's efforts for better placement, told the students to maintain good grades, detailed the eligibility criteria for campus placements, and stressed about the importance to improve their business communication skills. The Principal, Dr Ajit Kumar Panda thanked the parents for entrusting the institute with their children's education. He also thanked the students for being rightfully decisive in choosing the institute. He assured that the excited new faces will graduate with flying colors. Then, he introduced the key faculty members to the new batch, and unraveled the new Rule Book for 2019. Finally, Prof. Lenka made the students aware of the institute's clubs, transport facility, canteen and key contacts.
