Student Celebration

NISTians do freak out ! At NIST entertainment is also part of the curriculum vitae. We lay special emphasis on student's sports and extra- curricular activities. The college organizes various inter-college competitions. Cultural events are held during college festivals. The NIST-ISTE chapter holds a 3 day all India event called "SANKALP" each year comprising of more than 25 technical and cultural programs.

A special event called `Waves', held every year, highlights the cultural talent of our incoming batch. `Waves' is a smash-hit with students. It is replete with dances, debates, skits, mono-acting, just-a-minute, painting, cartooning, tattoo-making, dumb charades, antakshari, rapid-fire quiz and multi-cultural fashion parade. Students also put up their food and games stalls. `Waves' is total fun. Each hostel also organizes its own extra curricular activities.

Cultural and Sports Activities

The Annual Technical Symposium of ISTE Student’s Chapter, Sankalp-08 held at NIST witnessed a conglomeration of young technocrats of various technical institutes of the country. Powered by a punch line- ‘Futurizing the Present’ which perhaps, best illustrated its resolve to attain quality and tap the intellectual technical acumen, it had more than 700 outside participants from across the country. Our Honourable Director, Prof. Sangram Mudali set the tone of the event in his opening speech. The following delegates made their august presence felt in the opening ceremony: Mr. Rabinder Henry, HOD, Nanotechnology, Director, Professional Robotics Course in I2IT, Pune; & Mr. Ch. Prakash Rao, Principal, Khallikote Jr. College, Berhampur.

The three day program showcased a plethora of sports, cultural and creative talents of NISTians including Mini Marathon, Volleyball Match, Basketball Match, Swimming Competition, Songs and Dances, Skits, Quiz & Antakshari, Mimicry & Dumb Charade and Fashion Show by both students and Faculty members. NIST Business School Celebrates ‘ALLAP-09’

Enjoyment, freedom, comfort, new friends and simple fun – these words describe the spirit of ‘ALLAP-09’ conducted by NIST Business School. It was all made possible under the able stewardship of Mr. Vinay Kumar Das, Coordinator, Student Activity Center, NIST.

If one expects to find the rarest blend of raw ‘Adventure’ with exquisite ‘Heavenly Beauty’, it is this. ‘The National Himalayan Trekking’ takes one into the world of gentle walks along pine–shaded slopes over the city roads to hard, perspiring treks over rough and rocky terrains crossing high mountain passes, from challenging ‘on-the-top-of-bus’ rides on narrow paths (at a height of 7000-8000 ft) with no fencing to rappelling straight down from the mountains, gentle shuffling of skies on easy gradients of a snow covered meadow or a wind splitting rush of a heavy downpour or an even more exciting Ice-skiing experience, a soaring flight in a hangglider or the adventurous take on the white-water Rafting. You name it, Himachal has it. NIST organized the National Himalayan Trekking Expedition to Sarpass, a Himalayan range at the height of 13, 800ft above sea level. Every year Faculty members along with students take the chance of experiencing the chilly hills in the month of May being a part of this expedition which is coordinated by the Students Activity Centre, NIST in association with Youth Hostels Association of India (YHAI).

A Mini-Trekking Expedition
NIST organized a mini-trekking expedition for all first year students of the institute including Staff & Faculty members from RAMAIHA PATNAM to GOPALPUR SEA BEACH. Around 175 students, staff and faculty participated in the 18 kms long trek.

NIST Robotics Club at ROBOCON-09

The winner of this competition has the honor of representing India in the international contest. NRC has been participating in this competition for the last 5 years. This year total 52 colleges from all over the country participated in the contest. NRC went up to quarterfinals performing brilliantly this time. To reach to this level the team had to cross two league matches and a super league round.
This time NRC was considered as one of the strong contenders for the title. Only team NRC along with IIT Kanpur, IIT Chennai, NIRMA University and MIT Pune out of the total 52 teams was able to complete the target this time. NRC played against MIT Pune (the host team) in the quarterfinals. The commentators of DD had been describing team NRC as the dark horses of the game. The referees and organizers of the event appreciated the performance by telling that they wanted to see the team in the finals. One of the automobile majors Mahindra & Mahindra visited the team pit area to meet our students and asked for their resumes for future reference. They were very happy to see the kind of technology that had been implemented in the machines. The winners, IIT, Chennai will be going to Tokyo, Japan to play the international contest.
