KPIT Sparkle 2016
KPIT Sparkle 2016 is an all India contest of science and engineering students to attract and felicitate ideas from the most innovative minds to improve the condition of energy and transportation in the country. This event was started back in September-2015.The contest attracted 1700 ideas from 10000 participants from 27 states in India.All ideas have examined through various rounds and ultimately top 54 get selected for the final event. Team NIST is among those 54 ideas present in the Grand Finale.

WIPRO EARTHIAN-2015 Award
NIST RE Club group( Lakshmi Singh, Nistha Singh, TariqFaizal, Deepak Pasayat, Abhishek Kumar) achieved WIPRO EARTHIAN-2015 Award. They had participated the WIPRO EARTHIAN -2015 Ceremony at WIPRO Campus, Bangalore, with the faculty guide Prof. Bhagabati P Pattnaik during 6th-7th of Feb-2016 and received the award & cash prize worth 1.5 Lakhs fromMr. Azim Premji, Chairman WIPRO Ltd. The student group had worked on Solid waste management in Berhampur and submitted a case study as part of the competition.







SAMPAN, IIT-BHU Techfest,TECHNEX-2015
NIST, RE club student Group ( Peeyoosh Pattnaik, Sushma Ray, Devayani Mohanty & Soumya Das) achieved the Runners up in the Event SAMPAN, in the IIT-BHU Techfest,TECHNEX-2015. The student group has been involved in the area of industrial effluent filtration and reuse. The presented model was about the "Oil separation Techniques from Industrial Effluents".




SAE INDIA NIST EFFICYCLE 2015
TheSAE INDIA NIST EFFICYCLE 2015 TEAMMEraudersset for the 1st round which was the VIRUTAL ROUND to be held in KIET CAMPUS, GAZHIABAD, INDIA. Two members form our team Mahaveer Prasad and SagarBhattachargee took the lead and after through examining and analysis in CAD MODELLING, ANSYS ANALYSIS and COST ANALYSIS were ready to face the juries at Ghazhiabad. And of course they came out with flying colors, MERAUDERS cleared the 1st round and from a total of 250 teams only 110 went through and NIST was one of them.
The 2nd round was the toughest, building the vehicle, material procurement, day and night work in shifts,came back with 60th position at the ALL INDIA LEVEL.


JLPT CERTIFICATION
Mr B Asutosh (ECE 201210247), Mr. Gaurav Mishra (ELE 201218746), and Ms. Nicky Kumari (CSE 201347713) have cleared the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) Level N5 Exam conducted by the Japan Foundation. The test was conducted in Kolkata on July 5, 2015.





NIST wins the CADENCE Design Contest 2015
National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST), Berhampur, Team Members: Deepak Kumar Tripathy and Gyana Ranjan Panigrahy ( 2011-2015 Batch) have won the 1st Prize in the Under Graduate Category for their project titled "Automated Parking System Design using Cadence Tool" ( guided by Prof. (Dr.) Ajit Kumar Panda). . The winning team takes home Rs. 1.35 Lakhs. Kudos to the team and Mentor Dr. Ajit K Panda.
An Inter-college B.Tech Project Competition, ICBPC-2015
Ms. Anisha Mahapatra and S Sahoo from Electrical Branch, NIST Berhampur have been awarded Best Project Award for project titled Tribioelectrification using thin hydrophobic polymer coasting in the event organizing an Inter-College B.Tech. Project Competition which is technically sponsored by BPUT. Mr. Saurav Kumar of Computer Science Barch, NIST has been has been awarded Best Project Award for project titled "C/C++ Cloud based online Compiler" in that event and Mr. V. Ajay, S. K. Patra and V. Nayak , A Ranjan of Electronics and Communication, NIST , have been awarded Best Project Award for project titled "Band gap Reference modelling and layout" in that same event. That event was held on 20th April 2015.
COGNIZANCE-2015, IIT,ROORKEE
Electronics Hobby Cub had sent two of the Second Year students Mr. S.Sachin & G.Abraham of ECE Batch 2013, NIST participated in "PROTOTYPE MODEL MAKING" event to the TECHFEST(COGNIZANCE-2015) of IIT, ROORKEE on 27-29th March-2015. Their challenge was to make a wireless mobile charger and bagged 1st prize.
National Google Chrome Developer Hacakathon 2014
Kewal Krishna (2008-2012, CSE), Ankit Goyal (2008-2012, CSE), Shradha Gautam (2008-2012, CSE) and Varenya Thyagaraj (2008-2012, ECE) won the National Google Chrome Developer Hacakathon. NIST students defeated people from IITs, other big colleges, and other organisations and start-ups which took part in the competition and stood first.

TI INNOVATION CHALLENGE (INDIA ANALOG DESIGN CONTEST 2014)

     Texas Instruments India University Program conducted the Texas Instruments Innovation Challenge: India Analog Design Contest 2014 for College-Level for the undergraduate and postgraduate students of the institute during 14th February to 14th March 2014. The contest presented a challenge to the students to use TI's semiconductors such as embedded processors and Analog ICs in creative ways to solve system-level design problems. A total number of 450 students participated in the contest. Mr Mitu Baral ,Assistant Professor, Dept. of Electronics and Communications Engineering coordinated this programme.


TI ADC CONTEST 2014

     One project from NIST has been selected for the second round of Texas Instruments Innovation Challenge India Analog Design Contest 2014. TI received a total of 1754 proposals from 321 colleges across India. TI had a team of experts to evaluate these proposals on various grounds, such as innovation content, completeness of the proposal, meeting the contest guidelines, etc.

Projects for TI India Analog Contest

      Two of the students' projects have been shortlisted for "TI India Analog Design Contest 2012-2013", organized by Texas Instruments India. These projects are shortlisted for phase one. The selected projects are given below:

  1. "Emergency crash notification service for portable and nomadic devices" by Bhabani Sankar Nayak, Alam Shetty Murali, B.Tech final year under the guidance of Mr. Swagat Kumar Samantaray, Faculty member, Dept. of ECE.
  2. "Tongue drive system using msp430" by Baidya Nath Nayak, Rupak Kumar Mohanty, B.Tech final year under the guidance of Mr. Swgat Kumar Samantaray, Faculty member, Dept. of ECE.

Winners at Ansalonae

      Ms. Subhashree Pattnaik and Mr. Deepak Ranjan Panda, B. Tech, 4th Semester, attended the Tech Fest, Ansalonae-2012 organized by Parala Maharaja Engineering College, Berhampur from April 16-18, 2012, and participated in the inter college coding competition, Codes Splash (C-Coding) and got the first prize along with a cash award of Rs. 2000.

University Gold Medals

      NIST graduates have shown exemplary results by bagging three University Gold Medals which were awarded to them in the Convocation ceremony held on August 12, 2012.

NIST SAP Team at National Level

      SAP conducted a global exposure program 'SAP TECHNIVERSITY' on November 26, 2012. Anil Kumble, Viswanath Anand, and Chris Gayle were the keynote speakers for the event. The event had called for innovative ideas in the field of Meta Data, Mobility, Corporate Governance, and Social Networking. Six teams from NIST participated in the event and one of them, Apocalyse (formed by Abhishek Kumar, Rajesh Pradhan and Pawan Raj Murarka), reached the final round.

NIST students bag 6 positions out of top 10 in the IT Olympiad

      Orissa Information Technology Society (OITS) conducted a quiz contest at senior (MCA, BE, B.Sc. (Eng) and B.Sc. (hons)) and junior (up to class Std. XII and Diploma in Engg.) levels on November 21, 2010, with separate set of questions. About 1500 students from different parts of the State, including (Berhampur, Puri, Sambalpur/Burla, Rourkela, Sarang, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Rayagada, Balasore, Damanjodi, Paradeep, Angul, Paralakhemundi, Gunupur, and Bhubaneswar) registered for the same and 1300 students finally participated in the event. In this mega event, students of NIST came out with flying colors and six of its students were in top ten positions.

Fellowship Awards to NIST Students

Google Summer of Code (GSoC) 2016 program

Nitesh Khadanga, a B.Tech final year student of NIST belonging to the Computer Science & Engineering branch has been selected for the Google Summer of Code (GSoC) 2016 program.His name has been selected in the final list of accepted students for GSoC 2016 which was published on April 23, 2016. He would be working on the project ‘loklak’ under the mentorship of FOSSASIA, Singapore. He would be getting a stipend of 5500 USD (Rs. 3, 60, 000 approx.) for working on this project.

International Fellowship Award

Mr. Soumya Ranjan Senapati got selected for junior Astrophysics Research fellowship by W.M. Keck observatory, Haward, USA. He was also selected for junior research fellowship by Indian Space Research Organization

International Internship (Taiwan)

Scholarship:

TIGP and the hosting PI will together offer NTD 30,000/month-tax free (~USD 1000) for two months. (TIGP will provide a monthly stipend of NTD 20,000/months and the sponsoring faculty will provide additional monthly stipend of NTD 10,000/ month).
In addition, one way airfare at economy class is provided to participating interns upon completion of the training program.

POSCO Asia Fellowship to NIST Student

Aditi Gidra, Student, B. Tech. 6th Semester received the POSCO Asia Fellowship provided by the POSCO TJ Park Foundation, Korea. It was handed over to Aditi Gidra by Dr. Omakarnath Mohanty, Vice Chancellor, BPUT, Mr. Soumya R. Behera, HR, POSCO India, and other eminent personalities on December 24, 2008 at the BPUT office in Bhubaneswar.

IIT Madras Summer Fellowship Program 2009

Mr. Saurabh, B. Tech, 6th Semester, bearing Roll No. 200620062, has been selected for the prestigious 'IIT Madras Summer Fellowship Program 2009' in the Dept. of Physics, based on his credentials. The program was for a period of 60 days from May 16 - July 15, 2009. He received a stipend amount of Rs. 6,500 for the entire period of two months. The program is designed to enhance awareness and interest in high quality academic research among young Engineering, Management, Sciences and Humanities students through a goal-oriented summer mini-project to be undertaken in different departments of this prestigious Institute.

NIST Robotics Club's Achievements

ROBOCON 2014

The members of NIST Robotics Club (NRC) participated in the national level competition of Robocon-2014 organised by MIT Academy of Engineering, Pune during 6th to 8th March 2014. Competing with 89 participating teams from all across the country, NRC secured 23rd position in the contest. The theme of this year was "Salute to Parenthood", where each of the teams was supposed to present two robots, a manual (parent robot) and an automatic (child robot) for completing four tasks in a time span of 3 minutes. NRC amidst tough competition from top colleges of the country stood ahead of the other two participants from the state. Mr B. Rajanarayan Prusty, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Electrical Engineering and NRC Faculty Advisor accompanied the students to the competition.


NIST Robotics Workshop

      The NIST Robotics Club (NRC) has successfully organized the two-day workshop "Eye Botics", in association with K.C. Robotics Pvt. Ltd., for B.Tech and MCA Students. This workshop focused on Image processing in Matlab Image Acquisition, Image Manipulation in MATLAB, Integrating image processing code in real-time, Ball-Following Robot, and Object-tracking Robot.
A total of 181 students from different semesters took part in the two-day workshop held in the NIST campus on April 13 & 14, 2013. The workshop was coordinated by Prof. Swagat Kumar Samantaray, Faculty member, and Coordinator, NRC, with the help of Mr. Saswat Mohanty and Mr. Rajeev Ranjan.
During the workshop, students and participants learnt how to make Autonomous Robotics, Programming of Robot, Image Processing, Controlling Robot using Matlab, etc.

NRC takes part in ROBOCON 2012

      The NIST Robotics Club (NRC) members participated in various competitions held at different places and came out with flying colors.

      Apart from this, NIST was the only private Engineering College from Eastern India which participated in the 10th ROBOCON 2012, the national-level Robotics Competition organized by Doordarshan India, in collaboration with MIT, Pune, from March 1-3, 2012. Competing with 64 top engineering institutes of the country which includes IITs and NITs, NIST reached the 12th position all over India.

      The NIST Robotics Club (NRC) members participated in various competitions held at different places and won various prizes.

      NIST was the only private Engineering College from Eastern India which took part in the 8th ROBOCON 2010, the national-level Robotics Competition organized by Doordarshan, India in collaboration with MIT, Pune, from March 4-6, 2010. Contending with 45 top engineering institutes of the country which includes IITs and NITs, NIST was awarded with the National Award for Best Idea in Designing the Robots and was applauded.

Awards Won in Various Tournaments

9th Asim Memorial Engineer's Cricket Cup-2013

      The institute hosted the 9th Asim Memorial Engineers Cricket Cup 2013 during 17th to 20th April 2013. The matches were played at the college cricket ground. Cricket teams from different colleges of the state: G.I.E.T., Gunpur; C.V. Raman Engineering College, Bhubaneswar; GIACR, Raygada; CEB, Bhubaneswar; SMIT, Berhampur; RIT, Berhampur; APEX, Bhubaneswar; and the host institute, NIST, Berhampur participated in the tournament. Rain and bad weather condition washed away the final match between C. V. Raman and GIET and hence both the teams were declared Joint Winners for 9th Asim Memorial Engineers Cricket CUP-2013 at Berhampur University Ground. Dr Mihir Hota, Faculty member, NIST presented the trophy to both the teams along with other awards. The tournament was organized and coordinated by Mr Vinay Kumar Das, Coordinator, Students Activity Center. NIST.

KIIT Basketball League

      The NIST team participated in the KIIT Basketball League and grabbed the third position. NIST Basketball team won its matches against KIIT-B, XIMB and KEC in the league but lost to ITER, Bhubaneswar, in the semi-final match. The team received a Trophy and a cash award of Rs. 2000.

NIST-A WON THE 3RD ARGONAUTS TROPHY-2013

      The Institute organized the 3rd Inter College Basketball Tournament, 'ARGONAUTS TROPHY' during 15th to 18th April 2013 in the college campus as a part of its Annual Sports Meet. Ten colleges of Odisha, GIACR, Raygada; C.V. Raman College of Engineering, Bhubaneswar; COEB, Bhubaneswar; SILICON, Bhubaneswar; SMIT, Berhampur; VITAM, Berhampur; Orissa Engineering College, Bhubaneswar; Xavier College, Ranchi along with two teams from NIST, NIST A and NIST B participated in the tournament.
NIST won the '3rd ARGONAUTS TROPHY- 2013' in the final match against SILICON, Bhubaneswar on 18th April-2013. SILICON Basketball team was declared Runner's-Up of the tournament. Prof Geetika Mudali, Placement Director, NIST presented trophies to the Winner and the Runner's-Up along with others trophies to the respective teams. The tournament was coordinated by Mr Vinay Kumar Das, Coordinator, NIST Students Activity Center.

NIST Students - Badminton Champions

      NIST students participated in the "Inter College Sports Meet (ICSM) - 09", held at the University College of Engineering (UCE), Burla. The NIST Girls' Badminton Team, Ms. Aarati Maharana, Ms. Priyanka, B. Tech., 6th Sem., and Ms. G. Divya, B. Tech., 2nd Sem., won the Badminton Champions Trophy (Girls).
