INSPIRE : Management Program - 2011, December 23rd, 2011

NIST organized the INSPIRE – 2011: Festival of Learning for Managers of Tomorrow on 23rd December 2011 for the final year students of all +3 streams of Arts, Science & Commerce and also BBA, BCA, B. Tech., B.Pharm. Prof. Surya Mishra, Ex-Dean, Management Program, Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT), Odisha and Prof. Geetika Mudali, Placement Director, NIST enlightened the participants throwing light on the different career prospects and avenues on joining MBA and PGDM Courses. Various Management Games on Finance, Marketing, HR & General were arranged and winning contestants were awarded with prizes at the Concluding session. Dr. E. Raja Rao, faculty, Dept. of English, Dr. Arun Kumar Mohapatra & Dr. Ashok Mohanty, faculty members, Dept. of Management Studies delivered Talks on NIST and its various Programs. The Program came to an end with the Concluding Remarks and Prize Distribution by Prof. Geetika Mudali.

International Workshop on “Functional Materials” (IWFM 2011), December 20 – 22, 2011

The Institute organized the International Workshop on Functional Materials (IWFM 2011) in association with Drexel University, Philadelphia, USA during 20th – 22nd December 2011. Workshop on “Initiation to Enterprise”, 10th December, 2011

The Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) of the institute organized a 1-Day Workshop on Initiation to Enterprise on 10 th December, 2011. The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Sangram Mudali, Director, NIST; Prof. Geetika Mudali, Co-Founder & Placement Director, NIST; Mr. Prasenjeet Pati, Chairman and CTO, Afixi Technologies, Bhubaneswar; and Mr. Amarkant Padhy, Chartered Accountant, Berhampur. Prof. Sangram Mudali delivered the Inaugural Speech highlighting the importance of entrepreneurship and Prof. Geetika Mudali emphasized how entrepreneurship is important for a student in particular and for the nation in general in today’s era. The workshop was organized to motivate and guide the B. Tech., MBA and PGDM final year students to become entrepreneurs. Three Eminent Speakers were invited for the workshop, including, Mr. Prasenjeet Pati, a successful entrepreneur of the state, who explained in details on how to become a successful entrepreneur and provided valuable tips to the participants to start their business after completion of their academic programs, Mr. Amarkant Padhy delivered his talk on the significance of Finance in the Business. He described the different relevant areas related to Financial Accounting, Cost Accounting, etc. He asked the participants to focus on the business plan which lays the foundation of a successful business and Prof. C. R. Patnaik, Regional Coordinator, Eastern India, Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India, Ahmedabad presented his talk on the various qualities & skills required to become a successful entrepreneur. The workshop was successfully coordinated by Dr. Sudhir Kumar Panigrahi, Coordinator, EDC, NIST.

TCS Workshops @ NIST, 16th September, 2011

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) organized a ‘Workshop on Open Source Evolution & TCS Experience’ on 16th September 2011 at NIST. Mr. Debasis Samantaray and Dr. Suman Bhattacharya were the resource persons from TCS Bhubaneswar, for the workshop. Mr. Abhijit Benerjee, resource person, TCS, delivered a talk on “Introduction to ERP and Oracle Application” to around 300 B. Tech., MCA and M. Tech. Students on 4th November 2011.

Wipro Mission10X Program @ NIST, 5th September, 2011

Mission Live on Web, a program initiated by Wipro Mission 10X, was organized at NIST. All the Mission 10Xians of NIST participated and celebrated Teacher’s Day on 5th September 2011 with an oath taking ceremony, as a part of the program. Participants of Wipro mission10X delivered talks which were broadcasted on-line. 33 of our faculty members attended the 5-Day program from 26th to 30th September 2011. Mr. Bhuvan Sundar, instructor, focused on High Impact Teaching Methodology, during his sessions. Mr. Srinivas V, Mission 10X, presided the valedictory-cum-felicitation function. All the participant faculty members were distributed with participation certificates. Prof. Sangram Mudali, Director, NIST, congratulated the participants on the occasion. The program was successfully coordinated by Mr. Debananda Kanhar.

A 2-Day Workshop on ‘English Lab’, August 26 - 27, 2011

A 2-Day Workshop on ‘English Lab’ was held on 26th and 27th August 2011 in the institute campus by Infosys Technologies Ltd. Ms. Vineeta Mishra, Infosys, Bhubaneswar DC and Ms. Suhita C, Infosys, Bangalore DC trained the faculty members being the resource persons. Dr. E. Raja Rao, Mr. Abhro Mukherjee, Mr. Kallol Kumar Pattnaik, Mr. N. Serish, Ms. Nayanika Mahapatra, Ms. Sanjukta Mohapatra, Ms. Soumya Samanta, Ms. Sreeyasree Deb, Ms. Sreta Pattnaik, Ms. Sujata Mudali, Mr. Bhagabati Prasad . Patnaik, Mr. Minakshi Prasad Mishra and Ms. Tripti Mund, faculty members, NIST, were the participants for the program. The workshop aimed at honing the four major skills of learning, reading, writing, speaking & listening. The program was coordinated by Ms. Tripti Mund.

IBM Workshop @ NIST, August 13 - 16, 2011

IBM in association with Florencefennel Pvt. Ltd., an Alliance Partner of IBM, conducted a 4-Day Workshop on Lotus Domino from 13th to 16th August 2011 in the institute premises. Mr. Anand Chowdhury, Florencefennel, was the resource person for the workshop. An IBM Lotus Domino Certification Exam, titled, LOT-847-IBM Lotus Notes Domino 8 System Administration Fundamentals, was conducted on 19th October 2011 administered by Mr. Sanjeev Dev, proctor for the certification exam. 82 students and 3 faculty members were certified on the above technology.

IBM TRAINING AND CERTIFICATION PROGRAMS AT NIST DB2 Training cum Certification Program, January 28 - 30, 2011.

As a part of the IBM Academic Initiative Program, IBM DB2 - 9.7 Database and Application Fundamentals Training Program was held at National Institute of Science and Technology, Behrampur on 28th 29th, & 30th January 2011. More than 130 B. Tech. students attended the workshop conducted by Mr. Sourav, IBM. A number of 102 students and seven of our faculty members qualified the DB2 Certification exam held on 23rd & 24th February 2011.

RAD Training Program, February 15 – 18,2011

IBM Rational Application Developer (RAD) Training Program was held at the Institute during 15th – 18th February 2011 as a part of the IBM Academic Initiative Program. Around 120 students of both B. Tech. 3rd yr & 4th yr, and MCA, 2nd yr & 3rd yr attended the workshop by Mr. Rama Shankar, IBM. A number of 101 students and five faculty members appeared and successfully cleared the certification, ‘IBM Certified Associate Developer’ — “Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software V6.0” held on 23rd & 24th February 2011.

Workshop on Rational SEED Program, January 10 – 13, 2011

IBM Rational SEED Workshop was held at the Institute during 10th – 13th January 2011. Mr. Ravi Ranjan being the resource person conducted the workshop attended by around 15 faculty members of Computer Science department along with the M. Tech., CSE, 1st year students. All the aforementioned IBM programs were conducted and coordinated by Mr. Debananda Kanhar, Faculty, Computer Science and Engineering.

Entrepreneurship Awareness Program, January 28 - 29, 2011

The Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) of the institute conducted an Entrepreneurship Awareness Program in the campus on 28th & 29th January 2011. Being the resource person, Dr. Sasi Bhusan Mishra, Institute Professor, Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), Gandhinagar presented a talk on ‘Prospects and Career in Entrepreneurship’ and Mr. Sibashish Mishra, MD, Five Elements Group, Bhubaneswar delivered a talk on ‘Idea Generation and Business Plan Statement’ to all the PGDM, MBA and B. Tech., 6th semester students. The last day witnessed a galore of very interesting and mind blowing ideas been presented by the students. “Inclusion of Cooling Elements in ACs” and “Automated Water Flow” presented by the B. Tech., 6th semester students were adjudged as the best two ideas and were awarded with a cash prize of Rs. 1000/- and Rs. 500/- respectively whereas the PGDM students also showed their talent by putting up a presentation on “Service of Bill Payments” and got the third best idea title with a cash award of Rs. 300/-. The entire program was coordinated by Dr. Pavan Kumar, EDC Coordinator.

Training Program on Support Vector Machines

A 1-day Training Program on Support Vector Machines (SVM) was organized in the institute. Prof. Sudershan Padhy, Professor, Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering, International Institute of Technology (IIIT), Bhubaneswar, being the resource person, delivered talks on the areas like, SVM Classification, SVM Regression and Application of SVM. Around 20 faculty and students attended the training program.

IBM Rational Functional Tester Training Through the NIST IBM Center of Excellence, under the aegis of IBM Academic Initiative Program, IBM conducted the following host of certification, training and workshops for the students and faculty members of NIST: F DB2 Training cum Certification Program F RAD Training Program.

IEEE EDS Mini-Colloquium on ‘Nano-Electronics’ @ NIST IEEE-EDS (Electron Devices Society), 30th December 2010

A 1-day IEEE-EDS (Electron Devices Society) Mini-Colloquium on ‘Nano-Electronics’ was organized by IEEE-EDS Berhampur Students Chapter on 30th December 2010 in collaboration with National Institute of Science and Technology, Berhampur. Distinguished Professors such as, Prof. Hiroshi Iwai, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan; Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao, IIT-Bombay; Prof. C. K. Sarkar, Jadavpur University and EDS Chair, Calcutta Chapter; Prof. K. Mohan Rao, EDS Chair, Madras Chapter; Prof. J. Majhi, Emeritus Professor, NIST delivered a series of lectures on Nanoelectronics in this Colloquium. The Colloquium was inaugurated by P rof. Sangram Mudali, Director, NIST in the august presence of Prof. Partha Sarkar, EDS Chair, Bhubaneswar Chapter and other distinguished guests. The EDS Berhampur Students Chapter was chaired by Prof. Ajit Kumar Panda, NIST; Mr. Trupti Ranjan Lenka, Faculty Advisor, and Mr. Harikrushna Gantayat, Students Counselor, NIST. NIST faculty members and students along with delegates from various other engineering colleges of Odisha participated in the said program. The various technical sessions were chaired by Prof. S. P. Pati, Emeritus Professor, NIST, Prof. Trinath Sahu, Berhampur University and Prof. R. K. Mishra, Berhampur University.

Workshop on Free Software, 2nd October 2010

The Institute organized a Workshop on Free Software on 2nd October 2010. The workshop aimed at sensitizing academicians and students about ‘Free Software’ and the research opportunities in its domain and showing a path for the researchers to think innovatively and to collaborate for the demand for indigenous research in FOSS (Free/Open Source Software). Mr. Kiran Chandra, General Secretary, Free Software Movements India (FSMI) and Free Software Activist; Prof. Nandini Mukherjee, Secretary, FSMI and also working as Prof. in the Dept. of Mobile Computing & Communication, Jadavpur University; Mr. Siddharth M., Secretary, FSMI and working for Serria Atlantic; Mr. Ekalabya Patnaik, General Council Member in-charge Orissa FSMI and working for Seal Infotech (SAP Consulting); Mr. Sarath MS, Free Software Activist and working for Serria Atlantic; Mr. Sashank Jain, Free Software Activist (FSFTN) and studying in 2nd Year, M. Tech., Dept. of CSE, IIT Chennai; Mr. Jignesh Vasoya, Free Software Activist (FSFTN), and studying in 2nd Year, M. AUTOMATIC ROBOTICS WORKSHOP BY NRC & TECHNOPHILIA, MUMBAI, September 28 - 29, 2010

NIST Robotics Club (NRC) in association with Technophilia, Mumbai organized a 2-day Workshop on Autonomous Robotics, AUTOBOTZ-AVR on 28th & 29th September 2010. The workshop was based upon AVR Microcontroller based Robotics and it covered the areas like, Autonomous Robotics, Embedded C-Programming, and Microcontroller Development Board Designing. Around 200 students from B. Tech 3rd, 5th & 7th Sem and MCA 3rd Sem participated in the workshop. Mr. Prashant Nayak, R&D Head, Mr. Vaibhav, and Mr. Sanjay, Trainers, Technophillia, were the resource persons for the workshop. Mr. Nihar Ranjan Sahu, Mr. Swagat Samantaray along with the members of NRC successfully coordinated the program.

Workshop by IBM on Tivoli Directory Server, September 1 - 4, 2010

A Workshop by IBM on Tivoli Directory Server was conducted at the Institute during 1st to 4th September 2010. The objective of the 4-day workshop was to learn IT Service Management Life Cycle and its importance in enterprise business, what is Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) framework and how it helps to manage IT infrastructure to deliver IT services more effectively and efficiently, have an overview of IBM Service Management Framework, Introduction to IBM Tivoli software with focus on Tivoli Security Management portfolio, understanding LDAP Directory and Tivoli Directory Server Implementation (ITDS), Hands-on Labs and Tivoli Certification (ITDS 6.1) preparation. Mr. Shailesh Kumar, IBM Training partner, conducted the program. Total 93 of our students have been certified in the Tivoli Certification. Mr. Debananda Kanhar, Faculty, NIST, coordinated the entire program.

IBM Rational Functional Tester Training, Date: 30th July to 2nd August, 2010

Through the NIST IBM Center of Excellence, IBM Academic Initiative Program launched a 4-Day training cum Certification program on ‘Rational Functional Tester’ during 30th July to 2nd August 2010. The course was designed primarily for Students and Faculty members to learn the use the automation tools.

Wipro Mission10X program @ NIST, July 20 – 24, 2010

The Institute hosted the Wipro Mission 10X Program during 20 – 24 July 2010 at the Institute premises. The program was primarily designed to radically transform the cultures of learning in the institutions of engineering education. It was highly critical about the teacher-centered pedagogy and positioned learner at the center of the educational discourse. Amongst the many Pedagogical and Androgogical approaches, the Mission 10X learning approach focused on ‘Bloom’s Taxonomy’ and ‘Gardner’s Multiple Intelligence’. Around 15 of our faculty members, 10 from Roland Institute of Technology, Berhampur and 2 members from SMIT, Berhampur and 3 members from APEX Institute of Technology & Management participated in the program and received certificates from the Wipro, Bhubaneswar DC Head and Prof. Sangram Mudali, Director, NIST, for successfully completing the Mission 10X Certification Program. Dr. J. Surya Rao and Ms. J. Jayalaxmi, Founder Promoters and Directors, Roland Institute of Technology, Berhampur graced the occasion in the Valedictory Function. Mr. Debananda Kanhar, Faculty, Dept. of CSE, coordinated the entire program.

Workshop on Wireless Ad-Hoc Sensor Network at NIST, 10th March ,2010

A One-Day Workshop on Wireless Ad-Hoc Sensor Network was organized at the Institute premises on 10th March 2010. The workshop addressed the basics and the application areas of Wireless Sensor Network. All M. Tech, Computer Science Engineering students along with faculty members attended the workshop. The faculty members, Dept. of Computer Science Engineering, Mr. Pradeep Kumar Jena, took sessions on ‘Basics of Wireless Sensor Networks’, and ‘VANET and VANET Routing’, Ms. M. Aparna, on ‘MANET’ and Ms. Charulata Palai on ‘Note Coverage on Sensor Networks’.

INSPIRE Science Camp 2010 @ NIST, 2010

NIST organized the Department of Science & Technology (DST, Govt of India) funded Science Camp for the top 1% (based on their 10th examination marks) Class XI and XII students. The students were drawn from all over Orissa, especially South and Western Orissa. About 25 teachers of top schools also attended the science camp. Reputed Scientists of International fame such as Prof Trilochan Pradhan, Padma Bhusan, Prof. B. K. Mishra Director, IMMT, served as Mentorsto the students and inspired them to think and dream about research and development. Faculty from IIT’s, top Universities, NISER, ISI, etc., were the other mentors. The students of NIST had organized a science and technology exhibition on this occasion which was highly appreciated. The Director of the Institute, Prof Sangram Mudali, said the science camp has succeeded in its mission in inculcating research ambitions among the participants. The DST Advisor, Dr. Mukhopadhyay urged the students to join the INSPIRE program and avail the numerous scholarships for research. Dr. Ajit K Panda is the Coordinator of the DST program alongwith other faculty members and student volunteers.

IBM Sponsored Workshop, November 6 – 8 ,2009

An IBM Sponsored Workshop on DB2 was organized at IBM Center of Excellence, NIST during 6th – 8th November 2009. Around 80 students along with some faculty members attended the program presided over by Mr. Rajeev Kumar Mandal, the resource person of the program. The workshop was followed by a Certification Exam on 14th November 2009 where 63 students appeared the test, which was coordinated by Mr. Mayank, AI Manger, IBM.

Infosys Technologies Workshops, 30th October 2009

The R&D and HR Teams of Infosys Technologies, Hyderabad conducted two workshops at NIST on 30th October 2009. Dr. Ashutosh Saxena & Dr. Radha Krishna Pisispati, the two senior most R&D Leads of Infosys India (BOYSCAST FELLOWS), were the resource persons for the program. The workshop was divided into two sessions. Dr. Saxena, Principal Researcher in SET Labs, Infosys Technologies Limited, presided over the first session on the topic, ‘Information Security’ and discussed on the changing facets of Security System, with the advancement of IT, from physical and administrative mechanisms to automated tools for protecting files and other stored information; stand alone computers to the use of networks and communications links with measures to protect data during transmission. Mr. Radha Krishna Pisipati, Principal Research Scientist, SET Labs, Infosys Technologies Limited, Hyderabad, in the second session, discussed on the topic, ‘Business Analytics’ focusing on data mining techniques, unstructured data analytics and how these technologies enable business analytics to uncover actionable patterns from large datasets.

A Workshop by Microsoft India, 4th September, 2009

Microsoft India conducted a one day workshop for the Engineering & MCA students and the faculty members of NIST on 4th September 2009. Mr. Ramesh Chandak, Senior Lead Program Manager, Mr. Balaji Mishra, Development Lead, and Mr. Rakesh Parida, Senior Software Development Engineer, represented Microsoft. 350 students from 3rd year & final year and 50 faculty members from different disciplines attended the workshop. The workshop included Introduction to Microsoft by Mr. Ramesh Chandak, Introduction to SQL Server Session: RDBMS Concepts, TSQL Querying, Manageability Concepts with SQL Server, Optimizing Procedural Code by Mr. Balaji Mishra and Introduction to SQL Server Session: Introduction to BI Integration Services, Reporting Services, Analysis Services, BI Application Development by Mr. Rakesh Parida. The Postlunch session dealt with the Introduction to Windows Academic Program (WAP) and the college Resources for Windows Academic Program by Mr. Ramesh Chandak followed by Application Development using Microsoft technologies, Introduction to Microsoft Technologies on the presentation layer Middle Tier and Data Tier Microsoft Technologies by Mr. Balaji Mishra and Mr. Rakesh Parida.

Workshop on Teaching Methodology for Management Programs, July 10 - 11, 2009

NIST organized a 2-Day ‘Workshop on Teaching Methodology for Management Education’ on 10th & 11th July, 2009.Prof. S. P. Das, Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar was the resource person for the program. Faculty members of NIST B-School got immensely benefited by the areas, like, Teaching through Case Methodology, Consultancy, R&D in Management, which were covered during the workshop.

Workshop on Opportunities and Challenges in Starting and Sustaining an Enterprise , February 14 - 15, 2008

A two-day workshop on " Opportunities and Challenges in Starting and Sustaining an Enterprise " was kick-started by the eminent guests of the occasion, Mr. Santosh Nandi, Annova Technologies and Dr. Sujit Mahapatra, Bakul Foundation, on the 14th of February 2008. Sessions by Mr. Nandi; Dr. Mahapatra; Dr. Rajiv Roy; Professor, XIM, Bhubaneswar; Mr. Krishna Kumar, CEO, Dare Magazine; Mr. Mrutyunjay Mishra, Director, justconsult.com; Mr. Srikant Mishra, GM, SIDBI, Bhubaneswar; and Prof. Sangram Mudali, Director, NIST highlighted on various aspects of social entrepreneurship and its prospects in the present scenario. This workshop was aimed to make the young graduates aware of entrepreneurial power to enlarge the pool of new entrepreneurs who will be helped to face risks and uncertainties while endeavoring new ventures.

National Workshop on Advanced Control and Power Engineering , January 29 - 30, 2008

Nist organized a two day workshop on core engineering issues entitled “ Advanced Control and Power Engineering ” from January 29th to January 30th, 2008 with the sole aim to give a brief exposure on some of the challenging problems in the field of control and power engineering applications. Several delegates from different engineering colleges of Orissa had attended the workshop. The first day of the workshop was focused on “ Controls of Flight Dynamics” by Dr. R.K.Padhy, Asst. Prof.,Dept of Aero Space Engineering, IISc, Bangalore and also different lab sessions were conducted by Dr G. Panda , Prof. O. P. Suresh and Prof. S. Padhy , NIST on Matlab and ETAP. In the second day of the workshop, different experts in the field of power generation and transmission from OHPCL and GRIDCO, Orissa, tried to give an awareness on present power scenario and its remedies.

Xilinx University Program (XUP) Professor Workshop , January 22 - 23, 2008

XILINX, Dallas, USA in collaboration with CG CoreEl, Bangalore conducted Professor Workshop on FPGA design during January 22-23, 2008 at NIST premises. Such type of workshop was organized by Xilinx for the first time in Orissa. Twenty short listed faculty members from different engineering colleges of India were participated in this workshop. The program was conducted by Mr. S D Mehta from CG CoreEL and K Vekatesha from Xilinx University Program. This program includes lectures on FPGA Design and hands on laboratory exercises. At the closing ceremony, Prof. Sangram Mudali, Director, NIST congratulated all the participants and showed gratitude the Xilinx University Program Manager for organizing such type of workshop at NIST Campus with the help of NIST faculty.

Workshop on Foundations of Bioinformatics, January 19, 2008

The NIST Bioinformatics Club organized a workshop on Foundations of Bioinformatics on 19th January, 2008 for commemorating the 1st anniversary of Bioinformatika, the official mouthpiece of the club & the maiden as well as the sole technical publication of the institute. Esteemed Director, NIST, Prof. Sangram Mudali chaired the workshop. The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Berhampur University, Prof. B. K. Sahu graced the occasion being the Chief Guest along with other distinguished scientists, Prof. S. Ramakumar, Chairman, Bioinformatics Centre, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore & Prof. Abhijit Mitra, Head, Centre for Computational Natural Sciences & Bioinformatics, International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad as the Guest of Honors. Ms. Jyothi Sunil, Manager, Sales & Marketing, Jalaja Technologies Ltd., Bangalore, besides presenting a demonstration on Genocluster Software, also provided useful tips to the students vis-à-vis their career.

One Day Workshop on Real Time Issues on Power Engineering , December 11, 2007

One Day workshop on Real Time Issues on Power Engineering was held at NIST on December 11, 2007 aimed to create awareness among the people the real time issues on Power Engineering and to develop energy growth of the country with utmost and efficient running of power stations. The invited speakers Er. N. N. Panigrahi, Retd. Sr. General Manager, Upper Kolab Hydel Project, Orissa gave a lecture on " Vibration problems of hydro generators and the causes attributing it " and Er. S. C. Nayak, Asst. Manager, GRIDCO delivered a lecture on "Power Scenario of Orissa - Awareness". Dr. Gayadhar Panda, Asst. Prof., NIST spoke on " Emerging trends to resolve power crises ". NIST Faculty Er. N. Sahu (Retd. DGM, OHPC Ltd.) emphasized on " Transmission and Distribution Losses of Electrical systems and remedial measures to be taken to minimize these losses ". Mrs Sasmita Padhy, Faculty, NIST gave a demonstration on "ETAP (An Advanced Computational Package) and its utility in contemporary electrical field".

One Day Seminar on VLSI Design using Tanner Tool , November 5, 2007

Dr. Rajinder, Regional Manager, South Asia of Tanner EDA, delivered a workshop on the complete design flow of Tanner EDA in collaboration with Integrated Microsystem and it was organized by VLSI group of NIST on November 5, 2007. The workshop energized NISTIANS to work further in the new technology /methodology used by VLSI engineers.

NIST hosts Orissa Chemical Society Conference, December 16 - 17, 2006.

The 20th Annual Conference of Orissa Chemical Society was held at National Institute of Science & Technology on 16th and 17th of December, 2006. This is the second time that this prestigious conference is being held at NIST. More than 120 delegates from all over India including teachers, researchers, scientists had registered for the conference and the symposium on “Molecular Electronics”. The conference was held in honor of Late Loknath Mishra (1892-1968), an esteemed Chemistry teacher of Ravenshaw College. The Chief Guest of the Inaugural function was Prof (Dr.) G.S. Samantray, renowned microbiologist of AIIMS, New Delhi. The renowned Chemistry teachers of the batch of 1961 were honored by their students and all delegates. More than 25 technical papers were presented in the Conference. Speakers emphasized upon the need to develop more research work and better laboratories in Orissa and the need to work in cross-disciplinary areas such as Environment Engineering, Nanotechnology, etc. The valedictory function of the Conference was presided over by the President of OCS, Dr C. R. Das and Secretary Dr. A. Samantaray with the Chief Guest being Dr. R.P.Das, ex-Director, RRL, Bhubaneswar. The Director of NIST congratulated the Local Organizing Committee headed by Dr. Arun K Padhy for the successful holding of the conference.

1st Annual Workshop on Robotics "ROBOVISION 2004", 29th February, 2004

1st Annual Workshop on Robotics "ROBOVISION 2004" was held in NIST campus on 29th February, 2004. ROBOVISION - 2004 was formed in December 2003 and had completed two successful demonstrations and three workshops. The NIST Robotics Club has been working with BRICS programs of IIT, Kanpur. NIST students had also completed several projects in Robotics.

In the work shop various dignitaries were given the talk. The dignitaries like Dr. Subash Chandra Palo, Program co-ordinator, NSS cell, Berhampur University, had told about the Objective of the Work shop and Subrat Kumar Das, Co-ordinator, UNICEF, Chatrapur, Pradeep Pajoshi, Programme officer, UNICEF , Orissa were telling about the sanitation in rural village. In the work shop 60 program officers from different college were present. At the last Vote of thanks given by Mr. Harihara Padhy, Program officer, NIST.

Blood donation camp on 15th November 2003

Under the banner of National Service Scheme the college organized one mega blood donation camp which was inaugurated by Dr. Ravi P Reddy. In which 362 units of blood were collected from the NIST students which is a record the none of the college in Orissa had given these much units of Blood at a time.

Inauguration of National Service Scheme 29th October 2003

On 29th October 2003 inauguration of National Service Scheme was held in the campus. The Scheme was inaugurated by Mr. Jacob Thundyil, Director of PREM (an NGO). After that plantation program was held. Director Mr. Sangram Mudali, Dy. Director Dr. Ravi P Reddy and all the staff and NSS volunteers were planted the tree in side and out side the campus.

Workshop on Embedded Systems, April 6, 2002

A one-day workshop on Embedded Systems was conducted by Trendz IT, a Hyderabad based consulting company, in NIST campus. The presentations were based on embedded systems, RISC Computing technology, Digital Signal Processing, Embedded applications, RTOS, etc. Speakers also discussed about the career prospects in this emerging area. The workshop included demonstration of Motorola & ARM boards.

Seminar on "Switchgear & Protection", Jan 15-20, 2001

A five-day seminar was conducted by Larsen & Toubro (L&T) on recent developments in Switchgear & Protection. This was the second such program being conducted at NIST for students. Modern equipment was demonstrated. Over 75 students and faculty participated in this unique program which is only one of its kind being held in Eastern India.

International Conference on Information Technology’2000 (CIT 2000), Bhubaneswar, December 21-23, 2000 .

The 4th International Conference on Information Technology (CIT 2000) was held at Bhubaneswar. About 300 delegates attended the conference from all over the world. NIST was a co-sponsor of this conference. Six student papers from NIST were accepted as student posters for the conference. One paper from NIST faculty & student was accepted for the main session.

ISTE Students Chapter Conference "Millennium 2000", Jan 8-11, 2000

The students chapter of ISTE was inaugurated at NIST with a conference called "Millenium 2000" in which over 60 invited students from various colleges of India participated in competitive events such as Technical Paper Contest, Technical Quiz, Technical Debate, etc. ISTE has awarded the best student chapter award 2000 to NIST for outstanding ISTE activities in the year 2000.
