       As a part of social commitment to the people of south Orissa, NIST started Employment Oriented Program (EOP) in the year 2006. Being the brain child of NIST Director, Prof. Sangram Mudali, it provides immense opportunity to the economically backward yet talented youths of South Orissa a platform to grow with. This program runs under EDC, NIST in assistance of Dept. of Science & Technology, Govt. Of India.


Every year 60 students undergo training in six different disciplines like:

  1. Basic computer Skill (BCS)
  2. Computerized DTP (DTP)
  3. Electronics Repair & Maintenance(ERM)
  4. Repair of Electrical Equipments (REE)
  5. Computer Repair & Maintenance (CRM)
  6. Workshop Practice (WP)

Information about the EOP disciplines:

Basic Computer Skill is for those who want to learn the skill in data entry and have thorough knowledge of Office packages like MS-Office.
Computerized DTP is meant for those who want themselves to be in the field of DTP work such as printing visiting cards, invitation cards etc.
Electronics Repair and Maintenance is for them who love to repair electronic equipments like TV, CD/DVD, and Mobile etc.
Repair of Electrical Equipments is a programme for those who want to have thorough knowledge on repairing electrical equipments like fan, grinder, etc.
Computer Repair and Maintenance is meant for those who want to learn computer repairing, partitioning hard disk, and assembling PC etc.
Workshop Practice is a program for the students who want to gain knowledge on lathe work, carpentry, welding, CNC, Milling etc.
Besides the technical knowledge, NIST also imparts spoken English and Internet awareness classes for every EOP discipline.

The said program duration is 4 months and is conducted in between January to May every year. The selected candidates for the said program avail the following facilities FREE of cost:

  • Books and Study Materials
  • Lunch on all working days
  • Transportation facility from Berhampur Town to NIST campus
  • Hostel facility only for girl students inside the NIST campus
Above all a monthly stipend of Rs. 1000/- to every selected candidate is also paid by NIST.


The eligibility criteria for the above programme are:

  1. The candidate must have secured 50% in H.S.C or equivalent examination
  2. The family annual income of the candidate must not exceed Rs. 50000/-

Selection Process

     The eligible candidates go through an interview to get selected for the said programme.

How to Apply

  • Write your name, father's name, Date of birth, the name of the EOP discipline in which he/she wants to join, Family Annual Income, Present address, Permanent Address, Phone number, Educational Qualification and Languages known etc. in a plain paper and send it to "The Director, National Institute of Science & technology, Palur Hills, Berhampur-761008"
  • Attach all supporting documents such as attested Xerox copies of certificates & mark sheets and certificate of annual income from competent authorities
  • Paste a recent color passport size photograph in the application
  • Send the application by post or deposit the same at the college reception desk
