A two-day workshop on "Opportunities and Challenges in Starting and Sustaining an Enterprise" was kick-started by the eminent guests of the occasion, Mr. Santosh Nandi, Annova Technologies and Dr. Sujit Mahapatra, Bakul Foundation, on the 14th of February 2008. Sessions by Mr. Nandi; Dr. Mahapatra; Dr. Rajiv Roy; Professor, XIM, Bhubaneswar; Mr. Krishna Kumar, CEO, Dare Magazine; Mr. Mrutyunjay Mishra, Director, justconsult.com; Mr. Srikant Mishra, GM, SIDBI, Bhubaneswar; and Prof. Sangram Mudali, Director, NIST highlighted on various aspects of social entrepreneurship and its prospects in the present scenario. This workshop was aimed to make the young graduates aware of entrepreneurial power to enlarge the pool of new entrepreneurs who will be helped to face risks and uncertainties while endeavoring new ventures.

Nist organized a two day workshop on core engineering issues entitled “ Advanced Control and Power Engineering ” from January 29th to January 30th, 2008 with the sole aim to give a brief exposure on some of the challenging problems in the field of control and power engineering applications. Several delegates from different engineering colleges of Orissa had attended the workshop. The first day of the workshop was focused on “Controls of Flight Dynamics” by Dr. R.K.Padhy, Asst. Prof.,Dept of Aero Space Engineering, IISc, Bangalore and also different lab sessions were conducted by Dr G. Panda , Prof. O. P. Suresh and Prof. S. Padhy , NIST on Matlab and ETAP. In the second day of the workshop, different experts in the field of power generation and transmission from OHPCL and GRIDCO, Orissa, tried to give an awareness on present power scenario and its remedies.

XILINX, Dallas, USA in collaboration with CG CoreEl, Bangalore conducted Professor Workshop on FPGA design during January 22-23, 2008 at NIST premises. Such type of workshop was organized by Xilinx for the first time in Orissa. Twenty short listed faculty members from different engineering colleges of India were participated in this workshop. The program was conducted by Mr. S D Mehta from CG CoreEL and K Vekatesha from Xilinx University Program. This program includes lectures on FPGA Design and hands on laboratory exercises. At the closing ceremony, Prof. Sangram Mudali, Director, NIST congratulated all the participants and showed gratitude the Xilinx University Program Manager for organizing such type of workshop at NIST Campus with the help of NIST faculty.

The NIST Bioinformatics Club organized a workshop on Foundations of Bioinformatics on 19th  January, 2008 for commemorating the 1st anniversary of Bioinformatika, the official mouthpiece of the club & the maiden as well as the sole technical publication of the institute. Esteemed Director, NIST, Prof. Sangram Mudali chaired the workshop. The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Berhampur University, Prof. B. K. Sahu graced the occasion being the Chief Guest along with other distinguished scientists, Prof. S. Ramakumar, Chairman, Bioinformatics Centre, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore & Prof. Abhijit Mitra, Head, Centre for Computational Natural Sciences & Bioinformatics, International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad as the Guest of Honors. Ms. Jyothi Sunil, Manager, Sales & Marketing, Jalaja Technologies Ltd., Bangalore, besides presenting a demonstration on Genocluster Software, also provided useful tips to the students vis-à-vis their career.

One Day workshop on Real Time Issues on Power Engineering was held at NIST on December 11, 2007 aimed to create awareness among the people the real time issues on Power Engineering and to develop energy growth of the country with utmost and efficient running of power stations. The invited speakers Er. N. N. Panigrahi, Retd. Sr. General Manager, Upper Kolab Hydel Project, Orissa  gave a lecture on "Vibration problems of hydro generators and the causes attributing it" and  Er. S. C. Nayak, Asst. Manager, GRIDCO delivered a lecture on "Power Scenario of Orissa - Awareness". Dr. Gayadhar Panda, Asst. Prof., NIST spoke on "Emerging trends to resolve power crises". NIST Faculty Er. N. Sahu (Retd. DGM, OHPC Ltd.) emphasized on "Transmission and Distribution Losses of Electrical systems and remedial measures to be taken to minimize these losses". Mrs Sasmita Padhy, Faculty, NIST gave a demonstration on "ETAP (An Advanced Computational Package) and its utility in contemporary electrical field".

A DST Sponsored workshop on "Sensors for Mining and Minerals Industry" was organized by NIST, Berhampur from November 19 - 30, 2007. The Chief Guest Prof. Omkar Nath Mohanty, Vice Chancellor, BPUT was inaugurated the program. The invited guest Prof E.S.R Gopal, Chairman, DST Committee gave a keynote address. The Guest of Honor Prof R. Bhattacharya, NPL, New Delhi and Dr. Chander Parkash, Scientist of DST, New Delhi discussed about sensors making the delegates enlightened.

Dr. Rajinder, Regional Manager, South Asia of Tanner EDA, delivered a workshop on the complete design flow of Tanner EDA in collaboration with Integrated Microsystem and it was organized by VLSI group of NIST on November 5, 2007. The workshop energized NISTIANS to work further in the new technology /methodology used by VLSI engineers.

One Day Awareness Camp on Entrepreneurship Development was held at NIST on September 29, 2007 to make the students aware of opportunities, possibilities and challenges of entrepreneurship and to let the students exposed to the dynamics of entrepreneurial endeavor. Dignitaries like Mr. Rajib Sahoo, Founder, SRB & Associates Bhubaneswar; Mr. C. R. Pattanayak, Regional Coordinator, EDII, Bhubaneswar; Prof. P. R. Naga Srinivasa, Chief-Coordinator, EDC, SNIST, Hyderabad along with Prof. Sangram Mudali, Director, NIST enlightened the students with scope for being successful enterprisers.

An AICTE Sponsored Faculty Development Program on "Modeling, Simulation and Optimization Techniques in Science and Engineering" was organized by and held at NIST, Berhampur from July 2 – July 14, 2007. Prof. Amalendu Mukherjee, IIT Kharagpur inaugurated the program in the presence of Prof. Sangram Mudali, Director, NIST, Dr. Partha S. Mallick, Coordinator, FDP, and delegates from different parts of the country. Eminent Resource Persons from IIT-Kharagpur, IIT- Roorkee, NIT-Rourkela, Jadavpur University, and NIST-Berhampur delivered talks on their areas of expertise making the delegates enlightened.

NIST organised a one-day workshop on Best Practices of Teaching & Research in US Technical Universities & Establishing Collaborations with US Universities at Hotel Swosti Plaza,BBSR on March 21, 2007. The invited speaker was  Prof. Farrokh Mistree, Professor of Mechanical Engineering, The G.W.Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, Georgia and the chief guest was Prof. Omkar Nath Mohanty, Vice Chancellor, Biju Patnaik University of Technology, Orissa .

A one-day national level workshop on Recent Trends in Mechanical Engineering was held at NIST campus on March 17, 2007. The invited speakers were  Prof. B.Pradhan, IIT Kharagpur, Prof P.N.Chakraborty, Ex. HOD of M.Tech Dept., IIT Kharagpur, Prof R.R.Das, Ex Director, NMTL. Prof.B.Pradhan gave a talk on Smart Materials.

The 20th Annual Conference of Orissa Chemical Society was held at National Institute of Science & Technology on 16th and 17th of December, 2006. This is the second time that this prestigious conference is being held at NIST. More than 120 delegates from all over India including teachers, researchers, scientists had registered for the conference and the symposium on “Molecular Electronics”. The conference was held in honor of Late Loknath Mishra (1892-1968), an esteemed Chemistry teacher of Ravenshaw College. The Chief Guest of the Inaugural function was Prof (Dr.) G.S. Samantray, renowned microbiologist of AIIMS, New Delhi. The renowned Chemistry teachers of the batch of 1961 were honored by their students and all delegates. More than 25 technical papers were presented in the Conference. Speakers emphasized upon the need to develop more research work and better laboratories in Orissa and the need to work in cross-disciplinary areas such as Environment Engineering, Nanotechnology, etc. The valedictory function of the Conference was presided over by the President of OCS, Dr C. R. Das and Secretary Dr. A. Samantaray with the Chief Guest being Dr. R.P.Das, ex-Director, RRL, Bhubaneswar. The Director of NIST congratulated the Local Organizing Committee headed by Dr. Arun K Padhy for the successful holding of the conference.

AICTE, New Delhi sponsored NIST to organize a Faculty Development Program on Nano Technology and its Applications in Science and Engineering which was held from March 27, 2006 – April 8, 2006 at NIST. The speakers were Prof(Dr) S N Behera, Director, Institute of Material Science, Prof AK Pal and Prof D Mukhaopadhyay of Jadavpur University Kolkata, Prof Arun K Pati of BARC Mumbai, Prof S K Roy and Prof Swapna Banerjee of IIT, Kharagpur, Dr B S Acharya of RRL Bhubaneswar, Prof P K Basu of Calcutta University, Dr Arun K Padhy, Dr Partha S Mallick(convener) and Dr Sukant Tripathy of NIST, Orissa.

A five-day workshop on English Language Fellow Program was held at NIST campus from March 20 - 24, 2006. The invited speaker  Prof. Kane Edward Glimour from Southern Illinios University, USA, He is now a Senior English language Fellow in India Sponsored by United States Department of state and Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology.

One-day workshop on Bioinformatics  was held at NIST campus on  March 4, 2006 to celebrate formal launch of Bioinformatics Club at NIST and was inagurated by the Chief Guest, Prof. S.Padhy, Dept. of Mathematics, Utkal University,BBSR. The invited speaker Dr. Balaji Prakash, Dept. of Biological Science & Engineering, IIT, Kanpur besides delivering talk on "Biological Aspects of  Bioinformatics" and also talked on the "Career Prospects of  Bioinformatics in Current Scenario".Prof.S.Padhy & the other invited speaker Dr. Pabitra Mitra, Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering, IIT, Kharagpur presented a talk on "Computational Aspects of Bioinformatics".

One-day workshop on Opportinities for Scienctific and Research  was held at NIST campus on  January 27, 2006 aims at educating the researchers of Orissa, specifically from the Engineering Institutions about the different schemes available with SEERC for pursuing research. The invited Chief Guest was Dr.V.Rao Aiyagari, Advisor & Head (SERC), Dept.of Science & Terminology, Govt. of India, New Delhi .

ISTE and    IEEE Students' Chapter of NIST was conducted three-day worhshop on national level technical symposiums called Sankalp on 28th, 29th, 30th October, 2005. The organised events were Poster Paper Presentation, Model Contest, Circuit Simulation, Electronic Fault Detection , Online C programming Contest, C Debugging Contest, Technical Quiz, Technical Debate, Robot Race, Robot Skills Show, Technical Workshop, General Quiz, Online Gaming Contest, IT Expo, Dance Compition etc.

A five-day VLSI workshop was held for the first time in eastern India through the aegis of the VLSI Society of India at NIST campus from October 19 - 23, 2005. The invited speakers were Prof. C.P. Ravi Kumar of Texas Instruments, Bangalore, Dr. Chandrashekar, Director CEERI Pilani, Prof D. Mukhopadhyay, Jadavpur University, Dr. Subash Bose of CEERI Pilani, Dr. Preeti Ranjan Panda of IIT, Delhi, Dr. Bhradwaj Amruther of IISc, Bangalore and Dr. Ajit K Panda, NIST, Berhampur  .

23rd Annual Conference of Orissa Mathematical Society was organized by NIST  on 5th & 6th Feb 2005 in NIST campus to focus on Fuzzy logic and Wavelet Analysis & its Application .It was inagurated by Prof. Sangram Mudali, Director,NIST and was hosted by Dr Ravi P Reddy, Dy Director, NIST . The invited speakers were Prof G.Das, Ex - V.C, Utkal University,Prof. S.Patnaik, Director,IMO ,Orissa.

A one-day IEEE workshop on Embedded System in Electronics and Instrumentation was held in NIST campus to focus on research issues in the area of embedded systems, VLSI Circuits and its related areas.The invited speakers were Prof. S.K. Lahiri, Dy Director,IIT Kharagpur, Prof Swapna Banerjee, IIT Kharagpur, Prof D. Mukhopadhyay, Jadavpur University, Kolkata.

The 1st Workshop on Recent Trend in Computing was jointly organized by OITS Berhampur Chapter and NIST, Berhampur . This IT conference provided a forum for scientists and engineers to present latest development and their research finding in the area of information technology among the academics, research, industry and student communities interested in infomation technology. The invited speakers were Prof. Laxmi N. Bhuyan, Prof. Prabir K. Biswas, Prof. Dheeraj K. Pradhan, Dr. Sukant K. Mohapatro, Dr. Binoy K. Das, Prof. S.K. Udgata, Dr. Ravi P. Reddy

The organised events were Poster Paper Presentation, Model Contest, Circuit Simulation, Electronic Fault Detection , Online C programming Contest, C Debugging Contest, Technical Quiz, Technical Debate, Robot Race, Robot Skills Show, Technical Workshop, General Quiz, Online Gaming Contest, IT Expo etc.

A one-day workshop on Yoga, Meditation and Health Management was organised by NIST on 29 August 2004 .The invited speaker was Maharshi Dr Yogiraj, DSc, Fellow IETE Founder, 100 Years Life Club.The presentations were based on some breathing exercises for Health, Meditation Techniques for Longer Life and Herbal Medicines and Rejuvenators.

 The 6th Annual Convention of ISTE Orissa Section and Annual General Body Meeting was held at NIST on 4th April 2004. On this occasion, the themes were Technology for the Indian Village, Energy Resources, Sanitaion, Roads, Water, Electricity, Education,Agriculture,Rural Enterprenuership, MicroFinance etc 

1st Annual Workshop on Robotics "ROBOVISION 2004" was held in NIST campus on  29th February, 2004. ROBOVISION - 2004 was formed in December 2003 and had completed two successful demonstrations and three workshops. The NIST Robotics Club has been working with BRICS programs of IIT, Kanpur.  NIST students had also completed several projects in Robotics.

In the work shop various dignitaries were given the talk. The dignitaries like Dr. Subash Chandra Palo, Program co-ordinator, NSS cell, Berhampur University, had told about the Objective of the Work shop and  Subrat Kumar Das, Co-ordinator, UNICEF, Chatrapur, Pradeep Pajoshi, Programme officer, UNICEF , Orissa were telling about the sanitation in rural village. In the work shop 60 program officers from different college were present. At the last Vote of thanks given by Mr. Harihara Padhy, Program officer, NIST.

Under the banner of National Service Scheme the college organized one mega blood donation camp which was inaugurated by Dr. Ravi P Reddy. In which 362 units of blood were collected from the NIST students which is a record the none of the college in Orissa had given these much units of Blood at a time.

On 29th October 2003 inauguration of National Service Scheme was held in the campus. The Scheme was inaugurated by Mr. Jacob Thundyil, Director of PREM (an NGO). After that plantation program was held. Director Mr. Sangram Mudali, Dy. Director Dr. Ravi P Reddy and all the staff and NSS volunteers were planted the tree in side and out side the campus.

A one-day workshop on Entrepreneurship Development was held in NIST campus to urge students to be job creators instead of job seekers. The invited speakers were Mr. J. B. Pany, MD, Radiant Telesystems, Mr. Rajiv Sahoo, Managing Partner, SRB & Associates, Prof (Retd.) Pramod Sahu of Dept of Commerce and Mr. MP Dubey, Addtl Director, STPI, Orissa.

A one-day workshop on Embedded Systems was conducted by Trendz IT, a Hyderabad based consulting company, in NIST campus. The presentations were based on embedded systems, RISC Computing technology, Digital Signal Processing, Embedded applications, RTOS, etc. Speakers also discussed about the career prospects in this emerging area. The workshop included demonstration of Motorola & ARM boards.

A five-day seminar was conducted by Larsen & Toubro (L&T) on recent developments in Switchgear & Protection. This was the second such program being conducted at NIST for students. Modern equipment was demonstrated. Over 75 students and faculty participated in this unique program which is only one of its kind being held in Eastern India.

The 4th International Conference on Information Technology (CIT 2000) was held at Bhubaneswar. About 300 delegates attended the conference from all over the world. NIST was a co-sponsor of this conference. Six student papers from NIST were accepted as student posters for the conference. One paper from NIST faculty & student was accepted for the main session.

A one-day seminar was held on developments in E-commerce and JAVA language. The seminar was hosted at NIST and the chief speakers were from APTECH, Calcutta.

A joint NIST-Berhampur University international workshop was conducted by Prof R. K. Mishra, Berhampur University and Mr. Amalendu Patnaik, NIST, in Paris on application of ANN techniques in microwave engineering. The workshop was partly funded by Department of Science & Technology (DST), New Delhi. Over 30 international participants attended it.

A two-day workshop was conducted on Interview Skills. The chief speaker was Maj. Gopal Agarwal, General Manager, Oberoi Palm Beach, Orissa. About 100 students participated in the program.

The students chapter of ISTE was inaugurated at NIST with a conference called "Millenium 2000" in which over 60 invited students from various colleges of India participated in competitive events such as Technical Paper Contest, Technical Quiz, Technical Debate, etc. ISTE has awarded the best student chapter award 2000 to NIST for outstanding ISTE activities in the year 2000.

A VLSI Design Workshop for Academicians, CAD Professionals and Managers was organized by and held at NIST. The workshop was offered by Prof. Durga Mishra, Ph.D, Associate Professor, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, New Jersey Institute of Science and Technology, New Jersey, USA.
The Twelfth Annual Conference of Orissa Chemical Society was organized and hosted at NIST. The conference was dedicated to Late Prof. Dayanidhi Patnaik.
The 2nd International Conference on Information Technology was held at Bhubaneswar. The conference was attended by about 300 delegates from all over the world. NIST was co-sponsor of this conference.
