SKILL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS AT NIST

National Institute of Science and Technologyhas a vast experience of imparting skill development and employment oriented courses through various levels of NSDC Sponsored qualification packs. The institute started its employment oriented courses training since 2002 in industrial application modules of various engineering streams like VLSI design engineer, Physical design engineer, embedded software engineer, CAD CAM engineer, Lathe and CNC, Industrial Automation, Mechatronics, Solar PV design engineer &Soft skill programs etc. The institute have the state of art laboratories and specialized CoEs utilized on this purpose &various companies place the trained students across the country.

The institute as its corporate social responsibility (CSR), has been running another employment oriented program (EOP) for the down trodden and school/college drop outs from south Odisha districts.

The candidates shortlisted in priority of low of income and merit are offered with a range of self-employable course modules on Basic Computer Skill, Date Entry Operator, Electronics Repair & Maintenance, Repair of Electrical Appliances, Computer Repair and Maintenance, Workshop Practice, Solar PV Technician

The candidates continuing the fully residential course and completing successfully are offered stipend of Rs. 1100 per month with qualifying certificates from NIST.

ESSCI-NIST : ECoE for ESDM

Electronics Sector Skills Council of India (ESSCI), a Sector Skill Council formed under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE)-GoI, has setup its first finishing school for Electronics System Design and Semiconductor Design in Eastern India region to address the need of skilled manpower.

Skill deficiency among Graduating Engineers has been a pain point for the Industry / Employers. This finishing school is making available productive engineers. The finishing school aligns to the mandates of Skill India, a vision of our Hon'ble PM Shri. Narendra Modi. Courses offered at this center are ESSCI Qualification Packs (QPs) aligned to the NSQF. Assessment being done by the industry is a significant value addition and boost the employability of the certified candidates immensely.

The center is located at #621, DLF Cyber City, Bhubaneswar; and is funded by Electronics Sector Skills Council of India and be operated by NIST. This is the first such Center of Excellence in the region which will impart training as per the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) for relevant job roles in Industry

With many new initiatives such as Industry defined NSQF aligned curriculum, Industry certified trainers, Government of India Certification, etc. this initiative is one of its kind, set to improve the employability of the Indian design workforce and cater to the dynamic and demanding needs of the industry.

SURYA MITRA SKILL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

The institute has been bestowed with the Suryamitra skill development training from MNRE where in the Phase-I: three batches of 30 candidates each got trained for the qualification packs under the affiliation Skill Council of Green Jobs:

Solar PV technician CIVIL/Mechanical/Electrical/Suryamitra.
Placed more than 60% of the trainees.
The institute has huge infrastructure for the kind of vocational training in Solar PV/Thermal/Biomass/Biogas plant/Sewage water treatment plant etc and recently developing curriculum to train on the QPs of Skill council of green Jobs.

SOLAR PV TECHNICIAN TRAINING PROGRAM (National Backward Cast Financial Development Corporation) NBCFDC

The Institute has conducted Solar PV Technician QP of NSDC for the OBC students of the state which has been sponsored by National Backward Cast Financial Development Corporation(NBCFDC-Govt. of India).

NODAL TRAINING CENTER FOR AGRI-CLINIC & AGRI-BUSINESS

Department of Agriculture, Govt. of India and facilitated by MANAGE has recognized NIST as the Nodal Training Institute (NTI) under Agri-Clinics and Agri-Business Centers (AC &ABC) scheme. The candidates will be provided free training, lodging and boarding, study materials, Field trips during training and funding assistance for starting New Agri-business ventures locally.

SMART TEACHING – TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAM

NIST is launching “Smart Teaching - Teacher Training Program” for excellence in Education as per NEP 2020 vision. It is aimed at training the teachers in imparting smart teaching using evolving tools and techniques to prepare students for the 21st century. It is imperative that the effectiveness of knowledge transfer is maximized with the use of visualization, active student engagement, making learning a fun and use of modern day tools such as animation and x-reality applications.

The objective of the smart teaching program (for twenty sessions of approximately 2 hours each) is two folds:

Use of smart teaching methodology such as modern day computing, software, tools and techniques and making learning more student centric and fun. It will also cover evolving learning models using virtual, augmented and mixed reality.
Academic excellence session is focused on understanding basic science concepts in an applied and intuitive manner. It will also cover fundamentals of Electronics, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning and its applications.

Participating teachers can leverage this training opportunity to be hosted by NIST.

PLANS OF EXPANSION

The Institution is aspired to expand in to the large scale skill development programs under various verticals like DDUGKY, PMKVY, OSFDC, Odisha state PMKVY and other commercial and Scheme based higher level courses in Solar PV like Solar PV Entrepreneur, PV Power Plant Designer, PV Estimation Engineer etc and also expand its skill sector affiliations in to other domains of skill development programs.
