I. General Physics and Acoustics:

Viscosity:

Poiseulle's equation, Determination of coefficient of viscosity by capillary flow method and Stoke's method. Time of reverberation, Sabine's formula, Ultrasonic production, Application and testing.

II. Optics:

Interference of light, Fresnel's biprism, Determination of wavelength of light, Determination of thickness of a thin sheet of transparent material.

Newton's ring, Determination of wavelength of light and refractive index of medium.

Diffraction of light:

Freshel's division of wave front, Freshel's half-period zones, diffraction at straight edge, Fraunhoffer diffraction, Diffraction grating, its construction and use to find the wave length of light and grating elements.

Lasers:

Spontaneous and stimulated emission, Population inversion, Pumping and active system, The Ruby laser, gas laser and Semiconductor laser.

III. Heat and Thermodynamics:

Vanderwaal's equation of states and critical constants. Conduction of heat through compound media, Conduction of heat through thick pipes, spherical shell method (Radial flow of heat)

First law of thermodynamics, Specific heat of gases, workdone in isothermal and adiabatic process. Second law of thermodynamics, Idea of refrigeration, concept of entropy. IV. Electrostatics:

Gauss's law, its integral and differential form and its applications, potential energy and energy density in an electric field, dielectrics, electric polarization, and polarisibility.
