FUNDAMENTALS OF COMPUTING
FULL MARKS: 100 TIME: 3 HOURS
Principles of computing: Simple model of a computer to explain how it executes algorithms. CPU, memory, I/O units, machine instructions, operation code and operand location, instruction fetch and execute cycles, arithmatic operations, memory address and its contents, read and write operation.
Representation of information: Number system: binary, octal, hexa-decimal, positive and negative numbers, integers and reals, characters, ASCII and EBCDIC codes, analog to digital and digital to analog converters.
Algorithmic Development: Problem analysis, flow charts, decision tables, records, fields and files.
Operating System: Brief discussion on MS DOS commands and their implementation, MS-DOS file organisation and directories. Graphical User Interface of MS -WINDOWS.
PC Softwares: Word Processing - creating, editing formatting of documents and printing features.
Data Base Files: Creating and editing data base files and report generation.
