A Lecture series on 'Algorithm Analysis and Design' was delivered by Prof. B. S. Panda, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, organized in the institute in 3 different Phases: 27th - 29th October 2011, 3rd - 6th December 2011, & 22nd - 24th December 2011. Many of the students, especially M. Tech. CSE Students, and faculty members participated in the talk.

As part of Corporate Seminar Series for management students, Mr. S. K. Patro, DGM-HRD, IREL, Chatrapur delivered a Talk on 'Emerging Trends on HR and IREL as a Case Study' on 24th December 2011 at the institute. He apprised the students about the current HR practices and elaborated the HR practices in IREL as a case study. His lecture was attended by all management faculty members and students.

A Seminar Talk on 'Role and Need of Mentors in Life' by Mr. Venkat from CADENCE was arranged on 21st November 2011 at the Institute. Many of the students and faculty members attended the much informative talk.

A three day workshop on LabVIEW, ELVIS and Compact RIO was conducted in NIST campus by National Instruments from 14th - 16th November 2009. Mr. Karun Jain (Academic Technical Consultant, NI Bangalore) was the resource person.

The R&D and HR Teams of Infosys Technologies, Hyderabad conducted two workshops at NIST on 30th October 2009 The workshop was divided into two sessions. Dr. Ashutosh Saxena, Principal Researcher in SET Labs, Infosys Technologies Limited, presided over the first session on the topic, 'Information Security', Mr. Radha Krishna Pisipati, Principal Research Scientist, SET Labs, Infosys Technologies Limited, Hyderabad, in the second session, discussed on the topic, 'Business Analytics'.

The Annual Technical Symposium of ISTE Student's Chapter, Sankalp-09 held at NIST on 14, 15 & 16 October 2009 was inaugurated by Dr. C. R. Pradhan, CMD (I/c), NALCO as the Chief guest and Dr. G. Tulsi Ramdas, Director, Academics and Planning, J.N.T. University, Hyderabad as the Guest of Honour.

A workshop on 'Confidence Based Learning Solutions for Engineering Curriculum' was organised at NIST on 8th October 2009. Prof. Brain Webster, USA, Gokul Agarwalla, USA, Dr. Prashanta Mishra and Mr. Venudhar Bhatt, India, were the resource persons from Knowledge Factor India.

An AICTE sponsored Faculty Development Program (FDP) on 'Microelectronics/VLSI Design for Engineers & Scientists' was organized at NIST during 27th July to 08th August 2009. The program was inaugurated by Dr. S C. Bose, Senior Scientist, CEERI, Pilani, Dr. Vijay Mishra, Professor & Coordinator, INUP, IISc. Bangalore.

A 7-day AICTE sponsored Faculty Development Program on 'Advanced DSP Implementation Using FPGA & DSP processor' was organised during 25th to 31st August 2009. Prof. R. K. Mishra, Berhampur University was the Chief Guest in the inaugural function along with Prof. Asit Dutta, Calcutta University, and Prof. Mrityunjaya Chakraborty, IIT, Kharagpur and Prof. R. K. Maj Gen Saighal visted NIST on February 20, 2002. He exhorted the students to serve the country with all their might. He quoted John F Kennedy "Ask not what the country can do for you, ask what you can do for the country".

Prof Surendra Mohapatra, an eminent scholar of Dept of Chemistry, Regis University, Denver, Colorado, USA, delivered a seminar on "Teaching at a Liberal Arts College: Frustrations, Challenges and Rewards". He shared his vision based on teaching in an American University.

  Visitors in the year 2000

Prof. Umesh Mishra visited NIST in March 2000. He delivered a talk on Semiconductor Devices (GaN) .

Prof. Ganapati Panda, Head of the Department of Electronics & Instrumentation visited NIST in August 2000. He delivered a talk on E-commerce. Prof Panda is a leading expert in Digital Signal Processing.

Prof. Susant Sen, University of Calcutta, visited NIST in September 2000. He held discussions with faculty in research areas of Communications Engineering.

Prof. Dhiraj Pradhan, Dept of Computer Science, Oregon State University, visited NIST in December 2000. He gave a talk on " VERILAT - A new approach in Fault Detection of Large Circuits" . He also held discussions with faculty in research areas of Fault Tolerant Computing.

Prof. Gerard Huet, Professor of INRIA, France visited NIST on 11th Dec., 1999 Prof. Huet presented talk on "Mobile Computing Code".

Dr. Chitta Baral from Computer Science of ASU visited NIST on December 16,1999. He gave a talk on Artificial Intelligence. He also advised the students regarding higher studies abroad.

Dr. Laxmi N. Bhuyan, Professor, Texas A&M University, USA

In the month of June, 1998 A and M University, USA, alongwith his wife, visited NIST. Prof. Bhuyan inaugurated the NIST VSAT and Internet system. Prof. Bhuyan presented talk on "Recent Trends in Parallel Processing".

Dr. Durga M. Misra, Professor, New Jersey Institute of Science and Technology(NJIT), USA

was the honored Chief Speaker at the recently concluded seminar cum workshop on "VLSI Technology using VHDL". Over 20 delegates attended the seminar from all over India.

Prof. P.K. Basu, Institute of Radio Physics & Electronics, Calcutta visited NIST on 28th Oct., 1998 and gave a talk on "Semiconductor Physics, Optical Communication" & "Emerging Trends in Communications". Prof. Basu had visited Belgium as post doc fellow, Germany as Alexander Von Hurboldt fellow. Also he had visited USA, UK, Holland, Austria, Italy and Japan to present papers or as visiting Scientist.

  Visitors in the year 1997

Mr. Anurag Agarwal, the President of Vest India Limited, New Delhi was a visitor to NIST campus in October 1997. He gave presentation on "Interactive Voice Response (IVR) Systems and Telephony" to the students.

Mr. V. K. Roy, Managing Director, Kent Control, Hyderabad, visited NIST in October 1998. He gave a presentation on "Personality Development".

Dr. Binayak Rath, professor of Economics at IIT, Kanpur was in the NIST campus for a visit. Prof. Rath delivered a lecture on "Performance Appraisal in Developmental Studies". The role of Economics in Engineering studies was aptly highlighted.

NIST had a long awaited visitor, the vice-chancellor of Berhampur University, Prof. M. Q. Khan. Prof Khan was given a warm welcome by the faculty, staff and students of NIST. Prof Khan has had a tremendous contribution and was instrumental in setting up of NIST as the first Engineering College in Southern Orissa and the first Engineering College under Berhampur University. Prof. Khan also laid the foundation of the NIST landscaping program by planting a sapling at the entrance of the campus.
