STUDENTS

LEARNING @ NIST

From walking in as a fresher with no direction and walking out at the end of the 4th year with a job in hand is probably the best transformation a person can get. The foundation of NIST is the ethics that it follows as an institution. The first and foremost attraction of NIST is the discipline that one can feel all across the campus. The rules and regulations setup by NIST are followed by everyone associated with the institute in every possible way. The ambience across NIST makes it a quiet and peaceful place to study and the greenery all around the campus just adds to the sight. Finally the important aspect which any student looks forward to the ample opportunity that NIST offers. For campus recruitment drives, some of the big industries of our country come to hire students from NIST. These industries include names like, Infosys, Wipro, Trinity India, Sankalp semiconductors, Apptus and many more.

To infer the whole context, NIST has everything to offer that a student looks for in an institute. The only thing that NIST requires in its student is the zeal to work hard.

The Academics at NIST, has been designed in a way that will help students to excel in academics and will also make the students become industry ready. Students at NIST are given a Hundred minute class for each subject and hundred minute labs for performing experiments. A Hundred minute class or lab may sound too long but it becomes very interactive and interesting with our faculties at NIST. The effectiveness of the way our faculties teach their students is evident from the fact that students don't take any stress during examinations as the subject is properly explained in the classroom and proper study notes are provided to them as well. The labs are equipped with all latest and required technology, with highly experienced faculties to give the students a practical view of the subject.

The students are provided with all the required subject books by the college itself, plus there are two libraries in the college with all the books of renowned publications and authors available for the students. NIST has left no stone unturned in making sure that student score well in their examination. The internal examinations conducted by the college are based on the university pattern which helps students to prepare well for the end semester examination.

The co-curricular activities at NIST offers complete value to students for the time they devote for such activities. The main highlights of the co-curricular activities taking place at NIST are Teacher's Assistance ship and Research Assistance ship.

The Teacher's assistance ship invites students who have performed very well in their end semester examinations to assist faculties in correcting assignments and quiz tests. The research assistance ship offers a great opportunity to students to work under highly experienced faculties and research in their field of interest. The students who are selected to work as assistant under faculty are awarded with cash rewards after a certain period of time. These activities not only enhances the knowledge of a student but also encourages other students to work hard, so that they can also avail such great opportunity offered by NIST.

NIST is a considered as a benchmark research institution in eastern India. The institute has recently signed MoUs for research collaboration in the field of nanosciences, communications, semiconductor technology with the National Taiwan University and University of Electro Communications, Japan. NIST has signed MoU with industries like Sandhur and SunMoksha for collaborative work in the area of nanotechnology and renewable energy. NIST, in association with IIT, Khargapur, is also part of the MHRD Virtual Laboratory project.

Our degrees are designed to be relevant to the real world of industry and the needs of today's engineers. Teaching is underpinned by up-to-date laboratory and computing facilities. The department has facilities for conducting experiments to compliment the theory taught in lectures. The laboratories are equipped with modern equipment under the supervision of qualified technical support staff. Equipment in the various laboratories trains the students to expose practical knowledge and illustrate the most important concepts

A Network of all Systems with Internet Connectivity has a blazing 1 Gbps Leased Line Speed and WI-FI connectivity. All the Computer Labs have backup power supplied by 40 KVA UPS accommodating 30 batteries.

COUNSELLING SERVICE

NIST Counselling Service provides a blissful and pragmatic service to the young minds which nourishes them to adapt to the circumambience of the institution. Counselling service consists of Student Counselor, faculty advisor and student guides who try to ensure happiness with every student's life to provide a safe and secure environment within the institution.

Personal Counselling is a process of self-discovery and growth. We provide personal Counselling to the students to increase self-confidence, ameliorate relationships, solve problems, achieve educational goals and make good decisions for physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual well-being. We also provide individual and group Counselling for personal concerns where students encounter relationship difficulties (e.g., friends, roommate and family), depression, anxiety, stress, dealing with change, fear of failure, career uncertainty, frustration and coping with feelings like loneliness, sadness, shame, anger, and guilt.

TRANSPORT

TRANSPORT

NIST has its own full-fledged transport service with 18 Buses and around 48 staff members working in the transport section. They provide bus services for students and staff from Berhampur, Gopalpur, hostels and other nearby areas round the clock and at regular intervals.

RESEARCH ASSISTANCE & SCHOLARSHIP

In view of the many research projects available with faculty, we invite students of only 3rd year or 4th year B.Tech or final year MCA or final year MBA/PGDM to discuss with their faculty guides on Research Projects. NIST Research Committee funds a scheme for employing a small number of our own students as research assistants.

LIFE @ NIST

NISTians do freak out! Entertainment is also a major part of the curriculum at NIST. We lay special focus on the students' overall progress and growth with a strong emphasis on sports and extra-curricular activities. The college organizes various inter-college competitions. Cultural events are held during college festivals. The NIST-ISTE chapter holds a three-day All-India event called "SANKALP" each year comprising more than 25 technical and cultural programs.

A special event called "Waves", held every year, highlights the cultural talent of our incoming batch. "Waves" is a smash-hit with students. It is replete with dances, debates, skits, mono-acting, just-a-minute sessions, painting, cartooning, tattoo-making, dumb charades, antakshari, rapid-fire quiz and multi-cultural fashion parade. Students also put up their own food and games stalls. "Waves", therefore, is total fun. Each hostel also organizes its own extra-curricular activities.
