INCUVATIONS strives to nucleate and nurture technology and knowledge-based enterprises by leveraging the scientific and engineering competencies of NIST. It aims to empower and enable scientists and engineers in pursuing technology, innovation and entrepreneurship objectives. The core activities of INCUVATIONS are:

Nucleation of new business by creating the environment and opportunities for know-how providers, entrepreneurs and financiers to meet each other and form business teams.
Nurturing businesses through their start-up phase by creating and running an efficient business incubator offering not only space but also access to technology support, business mentoring, networks, scientific and information resources, and a generally conducive and supportive environment.
Promoting and running an active program for identification, creation, acceleration and translation (into practice) of technology ideas suitable for new venture creation.
Run an active and effective program in building and sharing resources, networks, competencies and special expertise in selective areas at the interfaces of technology and innovation, business and entrepreneurship, and government and policy.

It is in the forefront of enabling business incubation and startups. NIST invites commercially viable Business Proposals/Business Ideas/Innovations on Product/Process/Service from its potential entrepreneurs and innovators who wish to see their business ideas get incubated at NIST campus. Every viable idea gets monetary support ranging from Rs.4 lakh - Rs. 8 lakh, depending on the idea and money required to commercialize it. Over the years, it has helped several incubates make a mark for themselves designing and delivering successful solutions.

The Technology Business Incubator at NIST has the following state of art product development capacities in terms of various research laboratories supported under various projects from Govt. Agencies and Industries.

NIST Incubation Center for ESDM in collaboration with Electronics Sector Skills Council of India (ESSCI), a Sector Skill Council formed under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Govt. of India, has setup its first finishing school for Electronics System Design and Semiconductor Design in Eastern India region to address the need of skilled manpower.
NIST has launched a CII partnered and mentored Innovation Club to bridge the gap between academia and the industry "need" component and valuable mentoring. With the support from the CII-Eastern Region this innovation club has been doing functional works effectively from grass root level motivation to ideation till the successful mentoring by industry experts from CII forum of mentors at investors meets and startup weekends. It gives a radical shift in the entrepreneurial thought process of the campus.

NIST is considered as a benchmark research institution in eastern India. It has national level laboratories such as:

DST-FIST Center: Vector network Analyzer ( up to Ku – band), BENCHMARK WiCOMM-T Wireless Digital Communication Training System, ASIC Tester Model: Nikki ASIC, VEE Software, Microstrip Antenna Fabrication Unit, Power Supply, Measuring instruments, Fibre Optics trainers, Microwave Test bench, Antenna Trainers for communication Lab
TIFAC CORE Centre: LTE Laboratory, WiMAX Laboratory, SDR Laboratory, MIMO & WSN Laboratory, Embedded System & VLSI Laboratory, Device Fabrication Laboratory, Measurement & Testing Laboratory.
3. Advance Computing Center: High Performance Computing Laboratory with 1 Master+3 Slaves High End Servers with 16 Core Processors in each server. Centers of Excellence established in partnership with Industry such as CADENCE, IBM, SAP Asia Pacific, National Instruments, Texas Instruments, ARM, WIPRO. Other centers of excellence like Data Science, Center of Mechatronics, Center of Image Processing & Cryptology, Center of Knowledge Engineering, Center of Industrial Automation Control, Center of Renewable Energy & Center of Nano Technology.

To inculcate the entrepreneurial mindset amongst the gen-z youth in the campus, various students clubs have been set up since inception covering sectors such as robotics, renewable energy, electronics hardware, Astronomy, programming, Multimedia, and Automobile society to have hands-on practices on productisation skills.

Apart from focus on innovation and startups at student level, the forums like E Cell, powered by the Startup Odisha Startup Cell, CII innovations, MHRD Institute Innovation Cell etc. set the right ecosystem for innovation and startups.
