Workshop on Green Building Awareness
A half-day Workshop was conducted under the auspices of the National Mission on Education through ICT (MHRD, Govt. of India). The workshop was held by the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, IIT Bombay, in association with Team Shunya (IIT Bombay + Rachana Sansad's Academy of Architecture(AoA)).
Team Shunya, which is participating in an international competition called the Solar Decathlon Europe 2014, is building a net zero energy house for the Indian middle class to address the housing and energy needs of the country's growing urban population. The competition at Europe invites collegiate teams to design and build fully functional, attractive, affordable solar-powered houses. In order to promulgate awareness about sustainable construction, NME-ICT has collaborated with Team Shunya to create a half-day workshop on Green Building Design and Technology. The aim of the workshop is to give a broad overview to Engineering and Architecture students across the country about the various facets of sustainable buildings.
The workshop was conducted, as part of the eOutreach project of IIT Bombay, on August 24, 2013 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. A total of 6 lectures of 25 minutes duration each with two interactive sessions of 45 minutes each were held as part of the workshop. A special lecture was also delivered by students of Team Shunya, Academy of Architecture, and IIT Bombay. The lectures were delivered on topics like Buildings and Energy in India, Context Sensitive Approach to Sustainable Building Design, Thermal Performance of Building, The Journey of Sustainability - the Indian Vernacular and Beyond, Renewable Energy Options for Buildings, and How we are Building a Solar Powered House for India.
