NIST organized the 10th Edition of the Department of Science and Technology (DST) sponsored INSPIRE Science Internship Program for the top 1% +2 Science students of the State, based on their Class 10th marks during 27th – 31st January 2016. The program was inaugurated by Prof. Ashok Kumar Mahapatra, Director, AIIMS Bhubaneswar and Prof. Lahiri Majumder, Bose Institute, Kolkata in the presence of Prof. Sangram Mudali, Director, NIST in the Galleria Auditorium. Prior to this, the 9th Edition of the same was organized during 6th – 10th October 2015. The Honorable Vice-Chancellor of Utkal University, Prof. Ashok Kumar Das and Dr Debi Prasad Duari, Director of M P Birla Institute of Fundamental Research, Kolkata were the Chief Guest and Guest of Honor respectively. Around 600 students from 40 schools of the state participated in both the DST Internship programs. Eminent scientists and academicians, Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Awardees inspired the students during the two five-day events. Participating candidates were enlightened by the prominent luminaries on various fields of science and were also exposed to various lab activities conducted and supervised by different clubs of the institution. The participating students showcased their talent not only in academics but also in cultural events. To keep their competitive spirit high the college conducted competitions like Debate, Essay, and Quiz. Apart from these, the students also proved their mettle in sports events like Yoga, Basket Ball, Table Tennis, and Swimming. Prizes were given away by the Chief Guests to students who emerged victorious in the various competitions organized by the Institute as part of the two programs.
