National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST) and L&T Technology Services (LTTS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 30th Sept 2019 to further industry-academic collaboration through the pursuit of joint research and development activities in the areas of mutual interest.

They agreed to cooperate on setting up a center of excellence for digital technologies (IoT Solutions, AI, Data Science, Security, VLSI, 5G and Compute Vision, in the NIST Institute Park; and exchanging information on NIST curriculum, access to teaching, labs, learning material and learning facilities (including library). This MoU also enables NIST to participate in annual events such as TECHgium conducted by LTTS which provides a platform for the students to apply engineering solutions to the problem statements suggested by LTTS. Also, LTTS may sponsor labs, symposiums, workshops, and technical presentations to be conducted at NIST campus, at its own discretion on request from NIST. As per the agreement, LTTS may provide internship to students of NIST pursuing M.Tech and PhD at its sole discretion and which can jointly be decided and agreed between NIST and LTTS. NIST will enable such students to travel and co-work with LTTS teams at one of the LTTS development centers. LTTS and NIST will jointly author and publish technical papers in the identified areas. If desired by NIST, LTTS industry professionals would participate as guest faculties to NIST from time to time on areas decided mutually between LTTS and NIST. Both parties (NIST and LTTS) agreed to meet periodically to conclude definitive projects including the financing for each project and possible collaboration with other parties, consultancy from professors and including startups incubated/incorporated within the purview of NIST. NIST shall give hiring rights to LTTS to source potential employees as per its requirement in key skill areas.
