The National Institute of Science and Technology was established in 1996 and is being managed by
the SM Charitable Educational Trust with the mission to “create engineering minds capable of mastering the
global challenges of tomorrow’s technology”. The Institute is approved by the All India Council for Technical
Education (AICTE under MHRD, Govt of India) and is affiliated to the Biju Patnaik University of Technology
(BPUT). The Institute campus of 60 acres is located at the picturesque Palur Hills about 12 kms from
Berhampur and 3 hours drive from Bhubaneswar. The Institute has grown by leaps and bounds under the
able leadership of the founder Director, Prof. Sangram Mudali, Director (M.S., University of Houston, B.
Tech., IIT Kanpur), Prof. (Mrs.) Geetika Mudali, Placement Director, (M.S.(MIS), New Jersey Institute of
Technology, NJ), Prof. Ajit K. Panda, Dean, (Boyscast Scholar at University of Michigan, USA).

About 2700
students are studying in various disciplines of B. Tech, M.Tech (CSE, ECE), MCA, MBA & PGDM at NIST.The
entire campus is 24x7 wi-fi connected. For the recreation of students and employees of the Institute, we
have Lawn Tennis court, Basket Ball court, Swimming Pool, Cricket ground, Paragliding, Gymnasium, Adventure
Sports, Canoeing, Kayaking, Himalayan Trekking, etc. A plethora of rock gardens, fruit gardens,
nurseries, water fountains, aquarium, glass house for cactus vegetation, animal parks, etc., make the
campus an eco-friendly zone where man and nature coexist in a rare ambience away from the dust and
grime of city life.

The teaching
learning process has been significantly enhanced with the availability of NPTEL courseware (web based
and video based) from the IITs / IISc which are being extensively used by all faculty and students. NIST is
the only Institute in Eastern India to have implemented full e-governance (online ERP systems) in all aspects
of teaching and administration using its internally developed programs by its NIST Technology Consulting
Services (NTCS). Presently NTCS is implementing e-governance in all Institutes under the Biju
Pattnaik University of Technology, Orissa.

More than 40 Top Multinational and Indian IT sector & Core Engineering sector companies are hiring our
students each year. In the year 2009, the top five companies hired about 400 students from NIST. They are
TCS (159), Wipro (117), Infosys (59), Mphasis (38) and Vedanta (21). In addition numerous companies
hired NIST students leading to 80% on-campus placement in top-notch companies. NIST conducts certification
courses during summer vacation on VLSI, Oracle, Industrial Automation, Java, .NET, SAP, Japanese
Language, Soft-skills, etc. to groom the students and make them Industry-Ready.

The Institute runs clubs
on Robotics, Electronics, Renewable Energy, Bioinformatics, Literary, Entrepreneurship, Innovation, Programming,
Music, etc. The Institute has tied up with companies like, Infosys, Wipro, Mphasis, TCS, etc., for
Projects, Technical and Soft-skills Certification courses etc., through corporate-campus connect programmes.
NIST is rated the best for its GATE coaching, VLSI, CCNA, Oracle, JAVA, SAP certification courses and Egovernance
practices (ERP) among all the Technical Institutes of Orissa.

NIST is the child of serenity. It's a mini nature carved from Mother Nature
that laps it. Our sprawling campus spread across 57 acres of land at the feet
of Palur Hills, just half-an-hour drive from the historical city of Berhampur,
is inch-by-inch eco-friendly.
We are pretty choosy about out architecture. And that's the reason
every new design has to go through a thorough process of scrutiny before finding
approval. After all, houses speak volumes about their inmates.

Lecture Hall Complex (LHC) is a five-floored
building of over 60,000 sq.ft. Furnished with all modern amenities, it houses our
classrooms and laboratories.
|
|
|
Galleria is a four-floored architectural marvel of
over 100,000 sq.ft. It is our latest addition. Galleria is one of its kinds with
16 lecture halls and a 250-seated auditorium.

OCTAGON is a multi-storeyed, multipurpose masterpiece.
The structure echoes our strife to meet corporate standards in every little
thing we do. OCTAGON houses a modern Computer Center, an Internet Room, Student
Activities Center, a computerized Library and a Cafeteria. The campus also houses
a Workshop, Advanced Research Center, Entrepreneurship Development Center,
Facility Center, Generator Room, Transport Office, Yoga Center, Gymnasium and
other amenities such as bank, post office, book shop, xerox center and ATM counter.
The 600-seated in-campus boys hostel is replete with all modern amenities.
A semi-Olympic sized swimming pool has been added to the sports infrastructure.
Work on an indoor stadium and a Staff-cum-faculty residential complex is in the
pipeline.

NIST has a rich flora. We boast of having over 2000
varieties of trees in our campus. While at NIST don't miss the Rock Garden,
Fruit Garden, Rose Garden, Ornamental Garden, Cactus Orchard, Visitor's Park
and our Green House Nursery. Inviting Lawns, Fountains and Waterfalls.
And no, you aren't camped in a hill-station. You could be having a post-lunch
walk inside NIST!

It started with a dream. A few young and restless engineers saw the NIST dream.
They dreamt of launching an engineering college at Orissa that met global standards.
A bit unrealistic, not impossible though! It was an urge to give back what was due to this land,
to justify one's origin. And so began a journey that couldn't have been more
exciting, and even more satisfying.
NIST was set up in 1996 with an aim of promoting higher technical
education. The Institute is managed by S M Charitable Educational Trust.
NIST has a clear goal. It wants a name among the best learning centers in the
world. Call it the driving force of NIST!
